As a democrat leaning independent myself, where democrats have failed with an “open border” policy imo is not in the fact we’ve let more immigrants in but they are allowing it to happen illegally while simultaneously not making legal immigration more feasible.

I don’t see why legal immigration regulations couldn’t be relaxed and the border be secured simultaneously. Why does it seem most people polarize the issue one way or the other (mostly for political gain I’m sure); if you come to America with your previous countries documents/records and have a clean criminal record and then document yourself into the American system and start paying taxes, working, and contributing to the economy within a certain period I don’t see why we couldn’t increase the number of people who could reside here legally.

At the same time secure the border and block all illegal immigration by force at the border/decrease trial times for current illegal immigrants to be deported if they have a criminal record/commit any significant crime in the US or have them become documented if they are here on reasonable grounds and contributing to American society. Our unskilled working class population would increase and would still be a net positive for the immigrants who mostly come from significantly worse situations than being a working class American. Allowing immigrants to enter the US illegally with no background check and not being documented in the American legal system and then having to work under the table, not paying taxes, and still using government programs is really what hurts the US. But we can’t have legal immigration without stopping all illegal immigration which requires focused effort and increased funding by the government to do properly.

This is where I think a lot of democrats go wrong by pushing the point that people who want to regulate immigration are racist but we just don’t want society to collapse lol. At the same time trying to deport people but not improving immigrants ability to immigrate legally also doesn’t solve the problem long term and this cycle will continue with both sides using the immigration topic as leverage to sway American votes their way rather than actually trying to solve the problem.

I’m not gonna lie, most of them are coming over here to work.
