Love her!!!!!!
ОтветитьFascinating. I have still got my LP of the Carmen jones.
ОтветитьJust great!
ОтветитьSounds like Golden Age all this, now shining way less at many points of "view" (less so "hearing-wise" as far as opera singers, I tend to be conciliating because I adore well trained lyrical voices).
ОтветитьMarilyn Horne has always been one of my favourite singers. She was able to sing popular songs, operetta, dramatic mezzo/contralto and bel canto so, so beautifully - just superb. If you get a chance, try and find her opera arias album from 1981 with Claudio Scimone. I know it by heart.
ОтветитьMarilyn's range is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL...!!! She is in my opinion THE VERY BEST mezzo opera has or will ever see. Although i must say i love Elina Garanca. She is truly something special.
ОтветитьThe TRIFECTA as i like too call them. Marilyn, Joan, and Pavarotti. They ALL were the very best of their era and beyond for quite some time. But when Joan and Marilyn sung they had something very special together.
ОтветитьA fantastic singer and so humble. That makes her one of the greatest.
Ответить🇧🇬💐💞O, MADAM, YOU ARE AMAZING!!!🐘🍀
🌹BRAWISSISSISSIMO MAESTRA !!!🦄
🌸BRAWISSISSISSIMO!!!🐞🦉🏡🌞♾🌈🎼🎶🎵
Amaizing mezzocoloratura❤
ОтветитьWhen you look up "kick %^& " the dictionary, that's who you see!
ОтветитьAt 11'30" she talks about her duet-singing skills, and you absolutely hear and see her doing those things in all those wonderful duets with Sutherland. Also, all those skills she possessed of imitation, and technical facility, were assisted by great intelligence, because you just can't do what she did without it.
ОтветитьI heard her sing a recital in summer of 1994 at Ravinia, as part of the MH Foundation, and she was simply amazing. I got to attend a masterclass, and she knew EXACTLY what each person needed....best famous singer teacher I've seen! As a younger vocal student, I particularly remember in her recital the different voices she used in "Death and the Maiden", each a distinct character but still actual singing, not cartoonish or caricature. I cried continually through the concert as she kept moving me with her art, and when I met her, I couldn't really speak....I was still crying!
ОтветитьGod bless her for bringing so much passion and joy to us with her work ❤️

Marilyn Horne is a DIVA❤🎉
ОтветитьAbsolute legend!!! 💜 I believe Dame Joan's name is La Stupenda, I wonder what Marilyn Horne's name should be? 💜. Definitely in the group "Voice of the Century" and this is a great documentary!! 💜
ОтветитьI live in Eugene OR where she sang at the grand opening of the Hult Center then two years later at SF in La Cenerentola. She is an artist of extraordinary talent and I 'm so glad I got to experience her live.
ОтветитьSutherland Gone. Ramey Gone. Levine gone. And Horne will be 90 next year. Jackie's was the first opera singer I saw, live, as a young singer in high school. (Met Carmen, on tour 1970's) Sad to learn this film was released already over 25 years ago. And sad to realize as I now myself have sung professionally for over 30 years, I no longer care for that swallowed, muscled tone, as I once did. And not a mention of Vennard, who she studied with, before Lewis messed it up. Live and learn.
ОтветитьI bet these days they would never have a white person voice be dubbed for a black Carmen thanks to wokeness
ОтветитьGreatest mezzo of all time
ОтветитьAn absolute American treasure. - What a blessing she was to us all.
ОтветитьI sat in the front row at the Kennedy Center to hear Marilyn Horne. I've loved music, especially opera since I was a little girl, and I could not get over her breath control ~ I actually saw her diaphragm move. She was wonderful and I really enjoyed this documentary.
ОтветитьCali is still the Golden State
ОтветитьShe started out as a soprano
ОтветитьShe was the worst mezzo-soprano of all times. I always feel that someone should have suggested a good decongestant to her. There is nothing worse than to listen to that nasal mooing.
ОтветитьOne of the best mezzo’s of this century, if not one of the greatest singers in the world. Brava Marilyn👏👏
ОтветитьTeresa Berganza, Marilyn Horne, y Cecilia Bartoli. Las mejores del siglo. Únicas en su tiempo, timbres distintos, rango enorme, color diverso. han escrito páginas de Antología
ОтветитьMarilyn Horne is incomparable, phenomenal !!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьI will never forget hearing her sing Arsace at the Met. I was astounded by her articulated coloratura, her gorgeous Italian legato, her command of everything. Every young singer should listen to this over and over until she lives inside of them.
ОтветитьA masterclass in singing and musician at the best.
ОтветитьAnd we’re still one of the coldest places in the nation.
ОтветитьNUNCA ME GUSTO, ni la voz, ni como canta, DEMASIADO SOBREVALUADA para lo que es, como netrebko, un pajarito con una gran empresa de marketing sobre sus espaldas....
ОтветитьHappy 91st Birthday, Jackie….
ОтветитьThe worst mezzo ever...her throaty lower register is appalling and her technique makes her sweat like a pig when she sings. Too bad she is from my hometown - nobody here likes her much!
ОтветитьShe is the essence of greatness in musical performance: a phenomenal artist.
ОтветитьI adore her, and not just because of the voice. She's so "normal" while being so extraordinary. And intelligent, and funny, and likable. I was drawn to Pavarotti first, in the early 70s, who opened my ears to Sutherland (the greatest voice/singer in all of operative history) who opened my ears to Horne. I cannot overstate how much joy these three have given me.
ОтветитьMs. Horne knew good. That´s why she looked Caballé in the end of her happie birthday´s end.
Ответитьnomention of Eileen Farrell in that Carol Burnett show.
no mention of the "Three Little Piggies" sketch also with Carol and Eileen. LOL
This is 30 years ago. She is now 90.
Burnett is 91.
Farrell died in 2002 age 82.
Nadine Sierra and Pretty Yende are the worthy succesors to Sutherland and Horne.
ОтветитьI saw her once - L'Italiana in Algeri, Covent Garden, 1989. She was fabulous and it was the incomparable production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle.
ОтветитьHer brother Richard was a passenger on PSA Flight 182 that crashed in San Diego on 9/25/78 killing 144 people. It is still the deadliest plane crash in California history.
ОтветитьYears ago I heard Marilyn Horne perform coloratura passages in person more perfectly than l ever believed anyone could. One of the truly GREAT SINGERS of this or any other time. A woman who could live up to and beyond what a singer needed to do. A perfect performance!
Ответить❤
ОтветитьI wouldn't be a singer today if it were not for Ms. Horne's kindness.
