Compressor circuits need a start capacitor to give the extra boost to get motor started.
Hybrid when a circuit does not have enough power to run a motor and the motor only runs periodically and for a limited amount of time. Example door motors, the the circuit is used to charge the cap and the cap is used as battery/capacitor.

This video is excellent. I'm a complete layman regarding electronics, and the most "electronic" thing I ever did besides switching a lamp was an electrolysis apparatus using old chargers, and only knew the theory behind capacitors because we learn it in High School in my country, but it was mostly about doing calculations about capacitance in series and parallel, and mostly because our education system is flawed and focused on students passing tests than getting an intuition about what are they learning. I watched some videos to get some intuition on how it worked, how it operated using electric fields, what the electrons were doing using the Maxwell's Equations, etc... but there was a missing link.

I knew capacitors acted as filters for DC, and that it resists changes in voltage, but never thought how it could be used in a practical manner in all sorts of situations before this video. Each situation is very intuitive to understand and builds upon the understanding on the previous examples. Now I know if I want to filter noise, smooth a DC current, rectify an AC current to turn it into DC, delay a voltage drop, decouple DC from AC from situations you don't want AC, and remove DC all-together in situations you don't want a DC current, I can understand how capacitors do it all, and also I can infer the inductors do the same but "on reverse" regarding how it acts upon AC and DC compared to capacitors.

How does a start capacitor differ from a run capacitor in an AC circuit? I mean in relation to the work they do.

The best use of electrolytic capacitors (decent sized ones) is connecting them to a supply with the wrong polarity about 10 seconds before your electronics teacher enters the room. Time it right and hilarity ensues :)

Hi great knowledgeable vid. I wish to understand the affect of a 1.1 uf 2100 vac high voltage capacitor.
If used as a relief for 12 volt battery banks on draw. The draw will come from an inverter that changes the 12 volts to 240 volts. Would it be best served between the dc battery banks and inverter or after inverter to reduce initial draw from battery and will it help in any other way.
And if inverter is a pure sine wave or not a pure sin wave . Thank you in advance.

He’s also slightly wrong on explaining the speed of a capacitor, technically speaking there no really speed of a capacitor! But it’s ok, because it makes it more easier to understand.

Very well done. please reduce volume of music and be careful talking while your music plays. Your English accent is good but I can not hear your first two or three words every time your music is playing. Music and talking is overlapping a little bit. Also when you flash information on the screen... the quick sound (beep) is louder than your voice and blocks your words... makes listening more difficult. Thanks for showing the real world application of electronic components. I have been looking for a compilation and this is perfect.

I appreciate your video, I am very interested in this subject. However music is very distracting at least turn volume way down. It is louder than your voice . Also it doesn't add any value to what you are explaining to us . Instead you could explain what you are drawing in place of the music or Explain how a capacitor does not make a direct short when it is connected to + and - at the same time. Thanks again for your video and time .
