Never mind the environmental effects of removing a body of evaporating water from the water cycle, affecting global rainfall plus the considerable weight redistribution of Terra tonnes of water which would affect the planets' rotation, nutation and possible even the tilt, affecting seasons.. Seriously... I doubt that many 19th/20th century Europeans would have moved south to Africa !! But, there would be definitely a lot more African and Arabian peoples inhabiting Europe!! Not to mention a temptation for African invaders to war on, or raid Europe !! And all that worthless coastal beachfront property,. It would have meant much less tourism for the whole region !! Millions of people would never have had the opportunity to make a living !! Millions more would have died!!! And 10's of millions to 100's of millions would have never known of the Mediterranean !!! People who did survive would have lost everything, or a least have had to drastically change lifestyles that were millenia old in most people's lives.!!

Even if was possible from an engineering standpoint, it would have been disastrous. The reclaimed land would be a salt laden desert and disrupt the weather patterns of Europe, turning much of the continent into an extended Sahara. Hadn't heard of the Congo dam though, have to look into that a little more. Being able to pipe in water from the Atlantic for a massive irrigation effort would be interesting.

Good thing this never happened. The hubris of this individual - to propose ecological vandalism in for the cause of human expansionism. I'm not sure/familiar as to why building the dams is so "impossible," but I think something like this could be used for evil, but also for good… like offering the new land to the Kurds, Palestinians, and people's from all over.

We might need a dam like this to keep the level in the Mediterranean constant and could also produce a lot of energy. This dam might be far less cheaper than to create a dam for each city around the Mediterranean sea.

While civil engineers and architects dont't realize the real nature of Earth, building such great engineering works somewhere carelessly , is only going to kill the life that Earth still has, in detriment to life of the creatures that inhabit Earth including humankind, the truth nature of Earth is mainly Gigantic corpses of Animals death and half death that still have decomposing bodies, animanls and creatures of many sizes and types, and living creatures not so big, and materials derived of all that, including water atmosphere etc.

The was a nut this would lead the even a bigger war. Centralized power grid is a communist idea. Do what we say or live in the cold and dark.

And the environmental impact? Nobody thought of that? Shifting weather patterns? Devastated coastal regions that have been coastal over millennia suddenly becoming just another "land" cities? It would disrupt entire communities that rely on the sea.

Africa is constantly moving towards Europe. One day the land masses will connect at Gibraltar and around Sicily. That is the future of the Mediterranean, two land-locked seas instead of one, without any natural openings to the oceans..

Well Russia’s had a plan on the nevernever to knock the top 40 metres of the Don-Volga Canal off, so the Caspian Sea will rise up & meet the height of the Black Sea. In the hope the Caspian Sea won’t end up like the Aral Sea. Mind you that would take quite a while before the canal ceases being a waterfall.

This should be done . Imagine all the archeology that will show up
