Televisions and record players like those were pretty common when I was a kid in the 1970s. Magnavox was once a pretty good brand.

In the South of USA, often during warm summer months when mosquitos are around, blocking off the fireplace is done to keep them from coming into the home down the the chimney.

Most of the things in that house were dated. I'm thinking they may have belonged to the an elder of the parents.... simply because 2014 isn't that long ago.

Pretty sure that wasn’t a “white child”. I’m black as is my husband, and ALL my children came out looking “white” and some of them are really dark as adults.

Gosh, My family had the floor television set and the stereo too. Those items were very popular in the 70’s. Magnavox, RCA, were popular brands. We had the same ceiling fan. The second room is the family room, or may be called the den, or tv room. The living room is often underutilized, it’s the one room reserved often for visiting with guests. Friends and family hang out in the den and watch tv.
I wonder if a death occurred which led to the abandonment of the home? Maybe Sandra’s death? Adult children live elsewhere and didn’t sell the home following her death?
The room with the poem, now I lay me down to sleep, was a bedroom too. Probably a three bedroom house.
Some of those televisions probably don’t work. Lol. It’s a thing. The front porch. It’s bittersweet to watch your video. So many shared memories. I am a Black woman from Alabama. If I was watching this with friends or family, we would all be smiling and commenting about the televisions, the den, the ceiling fan, the church paper hand fan that advertised a movie on one side. The emphasis on reading. Graduation photos. The Wisconsin prom photo probably from Sandra’s sibling of her nephew or niece. The sports trophies.
We would not even need to see pictures. We would have immediately said to one another a Black family lived there the moment you walked into the living room. The black panther in front of the fire place. The Magnavox floor television. The floor stereo record player.
The fire in the kitchen, someone cooking something at to high a temperature. Probably trying to fry something and a flame started. Water was used to try to douse the flame because the person cooking didn’t know you don’t use water on grease fire. We had a spot on the ceiling when my older brother tried cooking.
My neighbor, she did the same thing. My brother many years later was the one who ran next door and put out her fire. The smaller stereos were called component sets in the late 70’s I think.
Definitely, the 20th and the 21st centuries are represented in that quaint house in the country (rural) Georgia. I hope someone from the family, if still alive sees the video and claims the family pictures and the cake plate ( I bake) because it makes me think of my grandmother who baked in a school cafeteria when she was alive.
We are literally a rainbow of tones. Some of us are born a very light or White skin tone and become darker after a few months. Many skin tones can exist in one family. Most likely only her children lived in the home. You were very respectful of their home and its contents.

I really hope you had permissions to go into this family’s home. This is a traditional AMERICAN home from the 1920-50s era if you would have done research. Black people are not some fascinating subject as you portrayed in this video. The family was very well off from the items located in the home and the children were not orphaned or fostered as you put it. The babies were not “white” but I don’t think you realize that black people create colors of all types. My mind is blown how you put together a whole narrative without any type facts. Please do research next time. This family was well off and educated.
