I really don't know why anyone would expect Joseph Smith to be perfect! But his title of prophet does bring attention to him. However, if your a Bible reader, you can clearly see that prophets were not perfect men.

I love Joseph Smith because he was so human. He was a regular kid, a regular guy that had such a great responsibility placed upon his shoulders. He rose to the challenge despite his weaknesses. That’s what I love about Joseph Smith.

Not sure people leave the gospel, but they do step away from the church. There are lots of reasons why, and it’s worth looking at the research literature for hard data (Jana Reiss has a book coming out this year on this topic). That’s all to say that I think it’s important to listen to people and respect where they are at. While it might feel personally validating for a practicing member to say that those stepping away are just proud or duped, the reality is often a lot messier. In the long run, it pays to build bridges not put up walls.

It’s not that Joseph was perfect that if he speaks for the lord it would be perfect, and if Joseph isn’t perfect then his words should be taken out of the scriptures and be a separate book just like the early members said it shouldn’t be doctrine but more a memoir or just lessons like other prophets we don’t put Brigham words in the BOM; I see these healing as normal and I watched my mom be healed by an elder a few months ago, I watched my car start working after prayer and fluid all over the ground, I see many healing and miracles I just keep them as my own private testimony

They don't leave the Gospel of Christ, they leave the Mormon church and it's false claims.

Well don't you think when people say follow the prophet he knows the way suggests infallibaility? That has ben reasons people have fallen away. I think they should change the song follow the prophet to follow the savior. the administraion follows the Prophet's experts with permission of the prophet or just on their own making the decisions. I mean when the scriptures say all those that... can pray and people will be healed... and has seen the finger of the Lord and more because of their faith... then you hear the leaders of the church has seen Him then that can indicate they arent there and When you say follow them but they are there yet. follow them as far as the church goes but when the falible leaders say you ca['t do this or that that is not the commandments and change it people see has control and politics especailly when they say JS did certain things and he saw god but if you do these thigs you aren[t worthy of the temple? hello

Maybe other people from other countries dont' know as much as people in the states so they jon because it is true while in the states people leave because they cant reconcile with things like the leaders have said they don't need to pay tithing but instead they get paid and then people praise King Binejamin who speaks contradictory. Yet the little guy pays their tithing and many and most don't make the money church leaders get paid. and you might say their job is 24/7 but they also get retirement and insurance and dental and what about wardrobe...and perks and as well as connections that put them with prestigious peoples and with that can come profitable networking and so forth. I know of people tat became members because of miracle. Isn't receiving a testimony a miracle. Wasn't Paul converted that way? So that passed around idea isn't true. Pride or common sense maybe does it but just because you aren't around people doesn't mean you are holding a grudge. Just because you forgive doesn't mean you accept that person and maybe many people have been abused in the church. So they can show up at chutch but are aware those people still lurking in the church but theyre are expected to leave babies in the nursery with people you do't know you can trust.. same with camps for the youth.. but I do believe most people believe the gospel is true but many don't beleive that people have worthy priesthood because they aren't healing people and giving guidnace through blessings like we read about n the scriptures. Three is a lot people dont say at church when they ask why because you are teally don't want to get the cold shoulder from saying these things but people do say them outside of church and many hold it back to fit in but it bugs them. I think mose will come back when its sorted out

Some key takeaways. D&C 64, 66 are as much about me as they are about the people mentioned. Elsa Johnson's "centrality" to the early church.

The truth is, no other religion undergoes more critical scrutiny than the LDS church. People have an expectation that not only our leaders but our members act without fault. It's both flattering and unreasonable. Almost all religions claim a truth just as LDS. Why are our people held to a higher standard? That's rhetorical.

Thanks for this lesson. Forgiving others, especially active members and leaders, is one of my biggest stumbling blocks, probably the hardest.Yet when I can give it all to the Lord the peace that enters my heart is phenomenal. And then I realize that I make mistakes that hurt others, too. Learning to repent of my own shortcomings and forgiving others for their faults are the two most important things for me to learn and do. I’m so very grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been given to learn these two lessons. Thank goodness for the people who forgive me. Thanks again for this wonderful lesson.❤❤❤❤

Wow. I’m impressed with that last chart (# of revelations received while working on the translation of the Bible)!

It makes me more determined to keep myself in that frame of mind so God can speak to me more easily.
