In America and in England they did studdy how big windparks influence the weather. They both found out that the windturbines act like a mountain and forceing the clowds to rise and lose through rain over 30 % of water. The resault is warmer and dryer weather and up to 30% less rain in the reagon behind the Windturbines. And at a bigger hight the turbines disturbe the natural cold and warm layers of the air and that results in dryer and warmer weather too. So building bigger and more turbines will mess up the climat big time for the land behind.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a vertically-bladed wind turbine, where the vanes/sails are mounted on a very large circular rail track, with them physically connected to a central generator? Basically sliding along a ~1km diameter low-friction ring gear type assembly?

Video is full of lies. Denmark export electicity to Sweden and Norway? This is absolutely BS and lies. The true is oposite. Denmark need to import lots of reliable electricity, made from hydropower, from its Nordic neighbours.

Loved the video, but I have a few questions:
1. I assume the larger the blades the more maintenance it requires? I've heard the blades require constant maintenance because it is exposed to the elements 24/7. I've also heard lighting strikes are also annoying as well.
2. Most turbines have those flashing white (during the day) and red (at night) that serve as aircraft warnings. With the larger blades, do they pose any issues in regards to aircraft?
3. It seems white is the color of choice for wind turbines, but can they be painted any color? For example - painting a turbine beige/sand/tan that resides in the desert.
Awesome video by the way! :)

Wake up ! Wind energy is not working. Just in Sweden we burn 140 M3 diesel a hour BCS the politicians closed down 6 perfect functional nuclear plants.
My previous energy cost was 0.035 €/kWh .Now it is 0.1 -0.4€ ofcours engineered by gredy government that now can tax VAT on this amount.
Swedish state is now have greater income from Vattenfall and tax on energy than Swedens total BNP 😁 btw , Danmark is buying swedish energy and has been doing this for 50 years. The nordpool electric market should be closed down , it was created by EU parasites to collect money from citizens, congratulations England that you got out of EU, Brussels has 30.000 employee with a average salary of 25.000 €plus 5000 for unforseen costs , free travel and accommodation. They need money to spin this wheels.

You will probably hit other limits first, but one eventual limit will be as the tip speed approaches the speed of sound and the added drag when that happens.

WRT land based windmills. Instead of building the blades at a factory and then moving them, how about build a modular factory components that can be moved on ordinary roads and build them on site?

Very nice video. Update: wind turbines of 15MW (Vestas V236) and 16MW (Chinese brand, forgot which one) are being made atm with 236 and 252m of diameter. A thing I want to point out is that the blade tip can't exceed the speed of sound, so bigger turbines will turn slower to avoid that. Which means that the gearboxes need bigger ratio's and thus bigger stresses come from there. They want to get to around 30MW turboines by 2030 btw. EDIT: I should have watched the whole video first... Hybrid versions and generators with bigger diameters/more magnetic poles are being developed to to work on lower speeds and avoid gearboxes that are too heavy or prone to damage.

Couple wind energy with gravity batteries to save the power like a hydro electric lake does every spring. Replace oil storage tanks with gravity batteries. Grand Canyon or Hoover dam for a couple of locations that have elevation. Also abandoned open pit mines.

The limiting factor on blade length is the speed of sound. The tips of the blades need to stay subsonic.
If you want a super long blade and have to rotate it very slowly to stay subsonic you will not get the energy from the wind that passes unmolested through the inter-blade gap.
I don't see the point in any other consideration in the video. The first limiting factor is always blade tip speed.

I have yet to come across an OBJECTIVE study of benefits and negatives of wind turbines. For benefits I see electricity generated ( how much and for how long until the unit has to be replaced). Of negatives I see the cost to manufacture/install a unit, the cost to dismantle/dispose of material. Let's ignore if the turbine is considered an eyesore/bird killer.

I'm gonna have to stop you right there they haven't really pushed the boundaries. All they really done is made a super inefficient blade Just a little bit more efficient than it's inefficient tentacle. If they put a reverse Archimedes turbine on there
1. You wouldn't have to have such ginomist blades.
2. You would get out 5 times if not 10 times more power.
3. You wouldn't have to have the wind turbine so high up in the air.
And all of that combinates in Less materials wasted More money saved and EVEN more money In your pockets. There's a reason why they call it Mathematical efficiency. Most wind turbine companies are just becoming Edison Putting generators all over the f**** globe. Because they're not thinking like Nicola Tesla. More efficient more powerful more effective and more output

You can have these turbines 20 times smaller and turning 24/7 without fail year round
The problem isn’t with no wind or turbines it is with the people who are in charge and their egos. It only takes simple common sense !
