Dick Powell in noir films is almost as cool as Humphrey Bogart.

Odd pan-and-scan effect throughout is unfortunate. A well written and directed example of the genre, and how can you beat that title, and title character's name? Dick Powell doesn't quite cut it as any kind of tough guy,it always feels like he's half joking....sending up tough guys, the original; Bruce Willis (although Willis has much more menace.) I still enjoy him in just about everything he did, but watching him in this really hammers home why Bogart was a huge star and Powell a very successful actor by any definition but certainly wasn't. These parts are not easy to play, and Bogie was and always will be the king of them.

I've been wondering if Lee J. Cobb & Raymond Burr are related. They look and sound so much alike!!

This movie was much better than I thought it would be. The happy ending was a bit surprising for film noir, but really fine. Enjoy it. 🍿📽️🍿

Dick Powell made a smooth transition from musical comedy to film noir.

Bava was great, he was maried to Elke Sommer, she lived in a haunted California house with Bava, she told this in several interviews, it got so bad they had to leave, and the abandoned house burned down shortly afterwards.
Love the channel.

the way that this movie is presented here it's not the way people saw it in the theater. the jerky camera movements come from somebody that perhaps filmed it off of a TV screen, the person is zooming in zooming out swaying to the left swaying to the right! it kinda ruined the movie for me i don't know about anybody else's opinion. essentially the presenter it's showing a bootleg version of this movie. i watched other movies by this presenter, and they were OK but not this one.

Johnny O'Clock was cooler and more self-assured than James Bond (any of them) imho while he marinated his good heart in a sauce of deceit and jealousy. But the marinade never soaked in - never flavored his eye for the Big Picture. Dick Powell played this role like no one else could have and Evelyn Keyes played the perfect soul-mate long-lost lover. And excellent movie...until it wasn't in the end! Thanks for the upload 💖 🇨🇦
