Bush would have won big in Florida if the expected votes in the Panhandle of Florida were not disenfranchised, which happened when the media called the state while the polls were still open in the Panhandle. The total votes were clearly suppressed when the election was prematurely called for Gore.

Even at the time, I didn't understand why the media wasn't talking about the fact that the Secretary of State of FL was also Bush's FL campaign manager. Every choice she made, and in every interview, was to fight vigorously for her candidate. We aren't set up to deal with that kind of conflict of interest, but clearly she should have recused herself. But then, his brother was the Governor so I'm not sure if that'd helped even the playing field.
