Clipper Over Comb Tips for a Beginner Barber

When you say that the clippers over the comb against the head with open clippers will give us about a #2, are you meaning with zero-gapped clippers?

Not my type of haircut as I prefer the long styles but you did a good job here.

My father recently let me cut his hair, im not a barber but i definitely love cutting hair on the side and cutting friends hair as well, this is super helpful because my dad has similar hair, really appreciate this!

I'm new to barbering, what's the difference between using thus method versus just using a guard?

Ive been barbering for 20+ years. Save yourself time and just use attachment combs. They are way more accurate and consistant anyway. However, if you absolutely insist on doing clipper over comb. It should be used as a once over/debulking rough draft. As a way to see, gauge and judge what hair lengths work best on that particular client's head and hair. Then afterward use the attachment combs to check your haircut for accuracy and final polishing, if you will.

This guy had good hair and a handsome face to begin with, but you created a true beauty!

Loved the video but hated the 'music'.

The problem about the clipper over comb is that when the hair grows the hair does not grow evenly compare is you use just clipper with guards

Near ear area, the hair should be shorter. And away up is longer than the top ear areas.

So really the "scissors over comb" was completely unnecessary since you went in with a #2 clipper - guard which did the same...waste of time.....

Did he have a cowlick ,ive trimmed mine a little higher at back of neck to get rif of tht horrable twisting hair on neckline,mine is at the same level at this mans,somtimes tapering it is just tidying it up but if the natural hair is uneven trimming it up like this is the best way i believe.

Hey Sean. Is it possible to use longer guards instead of clipper over comb?

How would you do this if the client wanted the top longer, but the sides just as short as in this video? Would I have to do a triangle section in the front to keep the fringe area longer?
