Is Finance A Good Major?

I'm majoring in both finance and accounting

It is for me. I like my job and the classes I took. Also well paid. MS in Finance.

I honestly don’t know whether I should major in finance or computer science 😭😭😭 I took three classes already that has to do with computer science but it stressed me out but don’t know whether I should continue or do finance instead

Idk what area this guy lives but in the northern Va/DC area you can expect to make 70-80k as an accountant or finance right out of college. In fact they recruit right out of university like the Big Four, they just have a gpa requirement

I wish I had info like this when I was a teen. I got a finance degree with no real plan and it hasn't been a great fit. The stress is too much for my anxious brain.

What profession would you give 10/10?

For the longest time, my parents have pushed me so hard to get into nursing. According to them, the medical field is really the only thing worth getting educated in. I did some pre-reqs, but I just didn’t feel passionate about it. My heart does not lie in nursing. After being accepted into the program, asking for a deferral, and having it granted to me, only to call back the next year, and being told that they will no longer honor my deferral because of changes made to the program, I just took it as a sign. Something about finance, just feels right to me. I was scared to take the risk, but this made me feel so much better about it. I’m going to change my major when I enroll back in school. Thank you for this informative video, and giving me to push I needed to follow my own path.

I am double majoring in finance and accounting.

A Finance degree is only as good as the school you get the degree from. Banking jobs are extremely competitive and you are gonna need a high ranking business school to back your CV.

Dual majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Accounting with a Concentration in Forensics and Fraud Examination.

Is a Masters Degree in Finance worth it versus a MBA? I'm wrapping up my Finance Degree and want to persue a Masters Degree but on the fence on direction.

I was conflicted between finance and business analytics, comparing the salary, job growth, opportunities and like you said, being future proof. I'm really trying to research as much as possible but I'm still stuck at square 1. Could you share your opinion and suggestions?

so is finance+accounting = business administration? Business admin really catches my attention but i feel like, for administrating a business , you only need add , substract, divide, and multiply do you not ? unless i’m really missing something.

Econ & Finance double major here. I honestly couldn’t find an entry level job in my field. The only ones that would give me a chance would basically just be in sales, which anyone can get into, plus I hate being a salesman, I was hoping for something more on the analytics side of it, but ultimately ended up settling with being a paralegal, which I’ve been doing for about 5 years. Currently researching whether I should move forward with law school, getting an mba, or making up the courses I need to get an accounting degree.

I wouldn’t say Finance was a waste though. It gave me the knowledge and confidence to take advantage of the covid dip and getting out in time as soon as I heard the Fed was raising interest rates this year, and made about a 60% ROI as a result. Just went back into investing recently, so I’m probably among the relative few this time around in the green zone, but it’s still disappointing that I couldn’t get an actual position with it

My two cents as a college senior majoring in finance: Do not major in finance unless you are going to an ivy league type school, a reputable state school, or a private college with a good business pedigree. The issue with finance degrees is that they lack specialization; you are not taught a particular trade within a finance degree.

Major in accounting instead. Accounting will teach you very valuable skills as far as thoroughly understanding financial statements, tax laws, and the mechanics of journal entries. Finance is more theoretical and subjective, where as accounting is based more in concrete procedure and law. Accountants can do finance major stuff, but finance majors can't do accountant stuff.

What kind of entry level jobs can I get to gain some experience WHILE I’m in school for finance?

I was thinking of becoming a doctor or engineer. But those careers do not really spring a great interest in me. But Finance has me excited and interested. I will look more into this, thanks very much!

Thank you your video helped give me some more information about a finance major. My career right now is in healthcare as a healthcare provider. As much as I love it I've been thinking about different careers to change into. I learn as much as I can about finances and economics when I'm not at work and love doing research.

I used to work for HR (CLIENTS ALL OVER THE U.S) and 9 times out of 10 they didn't care about your minor or concentrations. HR didn't even care if I verified their minors. they just wanted to know they had an MBA. I now work as a finance counselor for a college and I have no college degree related to finance, I just have experience. It's crazy that people spend so much money on college but it has so little payoff unless you get a master's
