I've been so confused by my film class textbook - THIS JUST SAVED ME

nicolas likes wide lenses, and one of the effects that is has in particular when you have singles like this where you only see Oscar and you dont see Ryan, is it creates a feeling of space between them that they're very far apart and they're not really connecting. At the same time the audience feels their proximity. You know by this lense choice that you're close to these people, to that actor. You can feel it, so it creats a kind of intimacy between the viewer and the performer, even tho you arent in big close up. a very diffrent feel if this has been on long lenses where you feel like you might have been a third party observer or an object fly on the wall
