I was lucky enough to see this in theaters as the double feature opening weekend
ОтветитьSaw in in theaters it was awesome fun if you knew what you were going to see. My grindhouse double bill would be cannibal ferox and house on the end of dead end street, but across the street you can go catch the late double bill of pieces and faces of death lol
ОтветитьI saw the original film in theaters, and I loved it! I was surprised that it bombed, and disappointed that other directors didn't make another double feature like this one. I would also still love to see "Werewolf Women of the SS" and "Don't" be made into feature films, but I'm not holding my breath.
ОтветитьI loved the Grindhouse movies but yes the boy accidentally killing himself eas ehat disturbed me the most. I koved the second movie best but they both great❤
ОтветитьI remember Grindhouse was 9 reels long and the trailers in between were labeled as “mock trailers”.
ОтветитьI loved both but even as a horror nut I favor Death Proof personally. All the loving Easter eggs to his other films was very cool like the dinner scene RD. The car was obvious. The music talk JB. The feet thing was a clear ref to PF. Also I just went to see Thanksgiving in the theater alone, it was perfectly done :). Roth keeps the kills coming for the short attention span of modern audiences while still keeping that classic slasher style.
ОтветитьI loved Grindhouse!! I think I saw it 4 times in theatres
ОтветитьI loved grindhouse
I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea lol but it's a fun ass movie
Thanksgiving was amazing , how dare u say otherwise!
ОтветитьEarl mcgraw is a legend
ОтветитьI do not have a well-constructed and articulatable argument against what you have said in this well-made video. I think you made quite good points. But I personally love these movies. They are modern day novelties and like all novelties they serve their purpose. The purpose of being unique. Unique they are but also interesting, weird and over the top. Which is captivating in of itself.
I wish we could get grindhouse 2 but I know I need to wake up from that fantasy.
Just because it didn't do good at the box office doesn't make it a failure
ОтветитьAbsolutely love this film!
ОтветитьThis film was fucking awesome!
ОтветитьI'm a Death Proof fan. all Tarantino films are guilty of the same things people dislike about DP, just spread throughout, but I like the suspense, the climatic buildup, my heart rate goes up to this day watching the chase at the end. It's the one movie he did that gives me a physical reaction even rewatched multiple times. Not all his movies do that. I personally don't need to see the lap dance scene, maybe the shorter Grindhouse version is better for most people, if everyone who dislikes Death Proof , saw that version, then I proudly disagree. I don't believe there's any problem with the movie being that way. It's one of the Greatest movies Tarantino has ever done. And if you were to cut the dialog from both groups of women, who would care what happens to them, why should I get excited by the end , or be at the edge of my seat, having no time with what these ladys had to say prior, or had not the slightest peek into their life's? If this movie was more like others these days then it wouldn't be special, it wouldn't really belong in Grindhouse.
ОтветитьI watched it twice in theaters, with two different groups of people, they were among the best theatrical experiences I've had in my life. I wish I could do it again
ОтветитьMan, I loved this video but I need the text subtitled so I can pick up technical terms and very different cultural langueges to use. I saw your video and had an idea for a film.
ОтветитьBlack Dynamite! "Donuts don't wear alligator shoes!" 🖤
ОтветитьTarantino's decision to make his blood effects goopy in Django and Hateful 8 felt like he took inspiration from Planet Terror. Bodies spit out blood rather than spray out
Ответитьi dont agree with your review of death proof i thought the dialogue was pretty funny and relatable. i felt it was horror film w a large touch of realism due to the dialogue scenes
ОтветитьI loved both these movies and still own the dvds. I really like the way they looked like worn out old drive in movies.
ОтветитьIt's such a failure it only had 4 spin off films 😂
ОтветитьWatching this at a drive-in when it released was AMAZING ‼️
NGL the “fake trailers” are my absolute favorite part tho 😅
I kind of love the first-first-final act structure of Death Proof that you mention. I actually just enjoy watching these people live out a pretty basic night out in the first part, and then there's just this terrible feeling I get knowing that this new, second set of girls are going to meet the same fate. And we're just...watching their lives play out, and they're ignorant of how they'll die
Of course, then the ending happens and it's an AWESOME subversion. Maybe not so great on a rewatch but man I loved this movie as a teen
I LOVE GRINDHOUSE! I saw it in theatres and it was truly an experience! The dirty film, the movies itself, the fake trailers and having 2 full movies for the price of one was wild! I personally liked "Death Proof" and while this video wasn't too keen on it, I understood it's monotonous tone and message. It shows 2 different sets of women - both strong and independent in their own right but different to drive the story. The first batch of women were shown as easily manipulated and wanted to be romanced and pursued by the sleazy boys and in the end falling to their fates. The second batch is much more in tune with the sleaziness of men, they're more aware of their surroundings and eventually not afraid to fight back. It's a simple concept but it's not filled with scenes just to "fill a running time". Zoe Bell's story in the diner is a setup for her explaining that she is an amazing stunt woman without even showing it yet! Plus, if you see in the background Kurt Russell is also in the diner (meaning he's already "watching them"). People don't give "Death Proof" the love it deserves but if you look between the lines Tarantino gave us some of his most subtle work. It's Flawless IMO.
ОтветитьI saw it at the perfect venue; a run down drive-in.
ОтветитьCHA'ALT
ОтветитьDeath proof is an amazing movie. Simultaneously a slasher movie and an action car chase movie. Just an amazing combo.
ОтветитьI got the opportunity to see it in the theater when it first came out. Loved the double feature concept and drive-in vibes (wish I could've seen it at one).
I didn't look at it so much as an homage to grindhose theaters as much as I did a throwback to the drive in, double feature b-flicks that I saw closer to the mid 80s (a lot a horror and bad sci fi).
Planet Terror was "easy" fun; Deathproof was classic Tarantino... mindless chatter bookended by gratuitous violence.
True, it lacked the grandiose amounts of exposition and trivia nerd dialogue found in most of his other films (which, for my own retrospective, is a good thing) but it definitely had the vibe of an "I Spit On Your Grave" flick.
Wish it did better at the box office but I didn't think R rated films were raking in the dough like that.
Man, I wish I could've seen Planet Terror on the big screen,! It's easily one of my favorite zombie movies ever and it has just about everything I love about low budget splatter films. Death Proof was such a slog to sit through and the ending was far too abrupt, although I will give credit that Tarantino did a good job at making the characters feel like real people.
Great video, man, but I disagree on your comment about Machete. Both movies are awesome and Danny Trejo is such a badass in both of them! Hopefully, we'll get Machete Kills Again... In Space someday 😂
Really messed up that they're just going to just let Eli Roth actually make Thanksgiving and let him ruin it by being a feature length movie made by Eli Roth.
ОтветитьA failure? Huh, I'm glad I wasn't into movie box office discourse back when it came out...
Death Proof is one of my favorite movies ever! I've never really cared for Planet Terror, though, I only saw it once... I've probably seen Death Proof four or five times now though lol
You think Death Proof is Tarantino’s career misfire? I’d put it above The Hateful Eight and Four Rooms for sure.
ОтветитьHobo with a shotgun is also quite good and could be the third film but is really hard hitting and mean spirited
ОтветитьIt wasn't a failure!Robert Rodriguez could make a paper airplane entertaining.Dont trust the credits.
ОтветитьI was lucky enough to actually see the GrindHouse double feature at a drive-in, it was fantastic. Even spotted a crack or two that night roaming the lot.
ОтветитьMy friend, what you have done to Deathproof, is simply sad and inaccurate. The movie may not have sold in the box office but it did inspire many films after it. The soundtrack is extremely effective, it was Tarantino's personal jukebox in the film too. The movie is filled with incredible shots of the chevy nova ss in the first half, and Zoe's stunts on the white challenger on the second. You referenced evil dead and night of the living dead for Planet Terror but not Vanishing Point for Deathproof? I mean its fair that you did not like the movie, it just seems to me like you missed out on a great opportunity to present a case for it.
ОтветитьI was in San Francisco, I went to an actual low-rent art house theater to watch it. Whats was cool they played 2 hours of American International Movie trailers before the actual movie started. So what was hilarious was, the fake movie trailers they made seamlously matched the old movie trailers that I just watch before. However once Planet Terror ended, half the audience got up and left, not realising that it was a double feature movie. I remember winning the theater poster and free movie tickets when they ask name "ALL" the directors that worked on the movie.
ОтветитьThings wrong with the films and the theater patrons. The films were not good. A little long winded on Tarantino's side of the double feature. Plus, the always cause trouble, cultural enrichment crew went batshit crazy with the fake broken film reel during the movie. I knew what was going to happen. Most of the audience did not. They acted like over grow bad children in adult bodies. It was not good.
ОтветитьMaybe,it failed in some circles, but I still believe that it had ALOT of potential. So much potential that TO THIS DAY,i keep my fingers crossed that Hollywood will revisit the grindhouse genre once again and allow a new double feature to be made. Hell, at this point I'll even take a giallo and an oz-ploitation film as the new double feature, if it means that grindhouse has finally returned to theaters after almost 18 years away
ОтветитьI love and don't love this movie at the same, but like watching it every once in awhile.
Kurt Russell is God, by the way 😆😆😆. Got the DVD as a gift.
Saw the Grindhouse Feature with my Cuz in Times Square (Hobo with a Shotgun played during the intermission, BTW) and we freaking LOVED IT! Also, Death Proof to this day is my favorite QT movie, damn right! Stuntman Mike 4Life! There's true beauty in it's slog, so I certainly disagree with you on your assessment, Mate.
ОтветитьI LOVED the "fake previews" between the two features and my favorite was without a doubt Eli Roth's "Thanksgiving" which almost had me popping out of my seat with the popcorn shouting, "THEY CAN'T DO THAT!" So awesome! Eli Roth is otherwise unfortunately not my genre but that preview made the game!
Death Proof often makes the bottom of Tarantino lists.
I think i liked Death Proof, but some of the conversations went on wayyyyy too long.
ОтветитьWell I like it.
ОтветитьGrindhouse was great...releasing on Easter weekend...not so great
ОтветитьWhy does tarantino play a racist or a creep in every movie hes in?
Ответитьplanet terror Is the greatest movie of all time
ОтветитьI'll admit it, I was always disappointed by the lack of T&A in either movie. That's one, or two, of the things I liked most about the genuine Grindhouse movies.
Ответить
