Trump declares national emergency on electricity

US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he will double the tariffs on aluminum and steel from Canada, doubling down on his tariff war as stock markets drop.

In a lengthy post on his Truth Social account, Trump also said he'll declare a national emergency over an Ontario export tariff on electricity and threatened to 'permanently shut down' the Canadian auto sector.

The only thing to make it stop is for Canada to become the 51st state, he said.
