Nagito and Hajime Edit - Somebody I Used To Know ( Read Pinned! )

Komahina rant time. If you want to read a sort of in depth explanation on their relationship, go ahead and read this :P i recommend it even if you don't ship them, just to try understanding what went on during everything, or don't. It is pretty long, but its a more organized version of my freak outs I sent to kasia while playing sdr2 Lol.


At the start of the game, Nagito stayed with Hajime after he passed out, when nobody else did, and they easily became friends. Hajime mentioned he felt calm/safe around him, and Nagito said that he found the two of them alike. Hajime was basically like. The only friend he's ever had. After the first trial, their friendship pretty much roughens. alot, for obvious reasons.

I'm not exactly sure at what point, but Nagito did fall in love with him. In the manga he directly says "I love you", in the japanese version of the game he cuts himself off mid way, with the english one being mistranslated.

The CD version being : "But I won't give up. I'll do anything in my power to assist you. Because..... I like you. I love you, for being willing to talk to me like this, even after knowing what a hopelessly incompetent person I am...."

To which Hajime says:

"Don't get me wrong... I'm just, scared. Scared of not being able to understand you, and leaving it like that."

It's not that Hajime hates him, it's just that he doesn't know what to do. ( he makes up for this later lol )

Earlier in the free time event, Nagito begins to tell Hajime why he acts the way he does, luck cycle, his parents, blaming himself for everything, his illness which is supposed to have killed him by now ( and is the reason he acts so strange, it changes the part of the brain responsible for socialising, so he doesn't really get when things are unacceptable to say, ect. ) , and how much he's scared to die without being loved.

"Now that I'm on the verge of death, I finally realize what i've wanted all along... Somebody's love...."

"Please, Don't forget. I love you from the bottom of my heart. "

And as soon as Hajime was about to consider forgiving him, he said it was all a lie, and he read it from a book; because he can't let Hajime get close to him. People close to him always get hurt or in some scenarios die, and he's literally in love with the man, so he chooses not to be selfish. He can't let himself be selfish.
Chapter 3, Nagito falls ill of the despair disease, his in particular making him lie.
This is pretty much self explanatory.
"Go away. I can't stand being in the same room as you." even saying he hates him a bunch of times. He's basically asking Hajime to stay with him and that he loves him but Hajime is an ACTUAL IDIOT AND COULDN'T TELL. himbo moment, everybody.!!!!
At that moment, Nagito genuinely thought he'd die. He's already sick with another very deadly disease. and back to his fear of dying unloved- it was. Very harsh. and sad. And hajime is very very stupid for not realizing.

Another favorite line of mine in reference to Nagito is from Mikans meltdown in the same chapter:"Love.... you don't understand? Is it because you don't have anybody to love..?"and OUCH did that hurt, my god Mikan LOL.
Chapter 4 is EASILY where most people misunderstand their relationship, and in general Nagito's mindset.
In the funhouse, Nagito completes the final dead room with russian roulette, pulls the trigger, and finds out that every single one of his classmates were a part of the ultimate despair, including the fact that Hajime is talentless.
and MAN. does it hit him like an absolute fucking brick. The man he's in love with basically goes against EVERYTHING he's ever lived for. He sees himself only worthy to help the ultimates, and see's those without them as, well, trash. And Hajime was exactly that, (Irony, but just wait for the double irony.)
After learning he was a reserve course student, Nagito became hostile to him , seemingly projecting the traits he hates about himself onto Hajime.
People misunderstand this part HUGELY. He did not hate Hajime because he was talentless. Nagito even said at the start that he took a liking to him because he felt like a bystander, like himself. He became harsh to EVERYONE in the cast after figuring out they were a part of despair, picking at them for everything he could think of. He insulted every single student, and Hajime was obviously included in this.
So now, his whole mindset comes crashing down on him, how fun.
Right before the trial if you talk to him, he says;"I know you don't matter... so why do I still care about you?"
And here we have a very very conflicted mf who is still in love with Hajime and does not know what the hell to do about it.

After this trial, Nagito begins to set up his suicide, if you try talking to him during this ; "I'm happy you're asking someone like me but... I still have things I need to do. So don't worry about me, okay? Go have fun with everyone else."
And when they discover his body, we find out what "things" meant.

Nagito died slowly and painfully, inhaling poison and stabbing himself, knowing that his biggest fear would come true.
But it isn't all a sob story, I don't think he died in vain.This trial confuses the HELL out of me, but I am a very firm believer that he wanted Hajime and the others to solve it.

I love how it says "but now you're just somebody that I used to know" at Kamakura, especially since in Nagito's eyes, Kamakura is genetically perfect, yet he chooses Hajime instead, and decides that Kamakura isn't as important

I just finished watching/playing the Danganronpa series, and by far this is my favorite ship in the franchise~ But it's so hard to find wholesome edits/fanficton that aren't sexualized, toxic, or that don't understand the characters at all :(

The fandom honestly over-sexualized this ship, and I’m happy you understood the true meaning. The OVA made me cry, and just when these actual edits that are supposed to show off the true dynamic of the ship are made, it makes me so happy. Happy that people understand that it’s not about being cute or toxic and whatnot, it’s about what it means in truth.
