I have a box of patch cables that I pull from customer sites where the plastic modular plug end's lock breaks off, or the cables themselves fail or some other issue like that. I repair those by crimping new ends on to them. I've been in IT for 30 years and I have done roughly 500 reterminations of modular ends. Generally I do these while watching TV in the evenings using just a pair of dikes, (wire cutters) and a hand crimper and a pair tester. The repaired cables go into a box and are reused at the same customer sites that I get the broken cables from. The only time I buy brand new cables is if I'm establishing a brand new ethernet system, then all patch cables are new.

I was always certain that these crimps were done by hand somewhere in China and it is nice to see this video confirming it. It's too bad that the industry couldn't have figured out a better end than the modular plug since the locking tab is a weak design and it pretty much guarantees that it has to be done by hand.
