shooting from the nodal point is definately a help when it comes to stitching in photosop. the biggest problem is levelling throughout the axis. you can get a special tripod head for this, of course it's very expensive. I picked up a rail 400mm multi purpose rail from amazon for thirty pound sterling. does the job.. A video worth watching, for a change. thanks Thomas.
ОтветитьIts a nice image, but i would of thought you would do more localised adjustmented using the powerful masks available in LR, rather than do global changes like this, especially on the highlights and shadows. Also the obsession digital photographers have with detail can be so detrimental to mood to an image. Not saying you did this wrongly, but raising up shadows and lowering highlights, can so flatten an image.

ОтветитьHey, Thomas, winter is soooooo beautiful. I learned how you made it a masterpiece.
Ответить🇨🇦/🇺🇸 You tend to shoot panoramas of DISTANT things like mountain ranges. You are not going to run into issues with parallax error if you don't include foreground OBJECTS. Sand, water and snow aren't distinct enough to worry about. I have a fully adjustable gimbal setup... but I'm fucking anal!
ОтветитьHello Thomas, just stumbled across your channel very recently and new to panorama photography, how did you exactly get your 6x17 ratio into your crop box, i cant see how to do it. Any instructions anywhere bud? Thanks, Phil.
ОтветитьPanos are fantastic, but they cost a fortune to print and frame; "Willie Wonkie and the Chocolate Panoramas". :-)
ОтветитьHave you ever been to shoot in Namibia?
ОтветитьYou should cover the effect of different focal lengths on panos. Can you make panos using, say, a 15mm lens?
ОтветитьI'm also impressed by the cost of printing and framing! Very expensive to frame o get metal prints.
ОтветитьThank you. I've learned a lot with your video.
ОтветитьI've recently acquired the habit of zooming in and stiching pictures together when I'm shooting something extra nice or important. Doing so provides an awesome resolution, beyond Hasselblad.
Ответитьi have just gotten into pano shots shot my first one last week. thanks for the vid. its good to get advice from the pro. this will really help me
ОтветитьMy daylight panos show clear and distinct lines where the image has taken different exposure readings and maybe even white balance differences, though I shot in RAW and Manual. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll keep at it but if anyone here has a suggestion for me it would be much appreciated.
ОтветитьDid anybody else see the clouds move
ОтветитьPerspective stitching is the best, when you are using Tilt Shift lens. It produces nice, clean result that beats other methods (spherical and cylindrical). I use it a lot with my 25mm TS-E lens.
ОтветитьReassuring that my own workflow is not much different from the great Thomas Heaton :-) Another great video Tom. Thanks
Ответитьi shoot a lot of pano and you can also convert into tiny planets its awesome
ОтветитьThanks for the detailed LR workflow. So much to learn after the image is taken.
ОтветитьWonderful presentation, Thomas. A first-class guide I'd say. I'm going to practice when I get back home to Italy.
Ответитьwhat's with those right point (left for you) links not working? It is not only you.
ОтветитьWhat can you do with such panorama? It cannot fill the screen of the computer. Printing? Is there such a print format? What to do with a big pano like that?
ОтветитьI'm really enjoy the panorama images. The confessional music was a surprise though.
ОтветитьA couple of years ago I was experimenting with panoramic videos made using a cheap panoramic "car dvr". I tried printing them out, and then I decided to try something different. I printed enlargements on five 8" x 10" sheets and taped them together and held them wrapped around my face to see it in original perspective. It was pretty good, but too small, so I tried again even larger. I can't remember what my final set was like but it was 2 sheets high (about 20") and around 100" wide. It was floppy, so I eventually taped one end of it to a shelf and held the rest up with my hands. But seeing it wrapped around my head was remarkable. And all this was from a really terrible quality frame capture -- probably 1024 pixels wide. But if you start from a good quality image, think about a huge wrap-around display. Of course, depending on where you put it, your wife might not like it so much. :-)
ОтветитьPanos are common in night sky photography
ОтветитьPersonally, I think the subject determines the image ratio of the picture, not the other way around.
ОтветитьMade me think of a Michelin star chef plating up a beautifully cooked meal!
ОтветитьLove this video. I've always wondered, especially since I go back a few decades into film days, why medium format pano cameras were designed in 6x17 ratio RATHER than 6x18, which would be a "true" 1:3 aspect ratio. A 1:3 aspect ratio seems to be the industry "standard" for panos.
My best guess is because the 120 size, 6 cm film INCLUDED the film borders. The actual size of the exposed film would be somewhere around 5.5 cm. This in turn, would maintain a closer 1:3 aspect ratio with the length @ 17cm. Also a possibility is that the 6x17 ratio enabled those medium format cameras to eek out one more shot per 120 roll of film, which would yield 4 shots per roll rather than 3.
I like some clarity in sky to. To bad it really brings out sensor and lens spots.
ОтветитьMy first print I ever sold was a panorama. The advantage of the nodal rail is you don’t have to crop as much top and bottom making composition easier.
Ответитьexcellent video! I am definitely going to try a pano and see what I come up with. Thanks for the great content!
ОтветитьGreat video Tom. I’ve done a few panos but struggle to crop them to a regular aspect so getting them printed is always very expensive
ОтветитьHey Thomas, excellent pano. One small suggestion for when you are using the graduated filter, you can use the built in brush to erase the effects of the graduated filter that goes over the mountain area so it will only affect the sky. I’m sure you’ve used this before but I thought I’d suggest it.
ОтветитьLook Forward to your tips for shooting Panoramas of ocean scenes ! As I have found out myself so much harder to get right with the moving waves etc
ОтветитьHow much more terrible is it to do and HDR panorama or a focus stacked panorama? I know you have to use Photoshop for the focus stacking.I have a Canon T6s at the moment but I want to go full frame this year. Until then I'd like to get the most out of my pictures.
ОтветитьI was not interested in making a pano at the beginning of this video.. Now i kinda wanna do one. Good Job 👏🏼
ОтветитьI took your advice and went out with Sony A7iii and iPhone XS Max in hand. Shot a bunch of raw still using the Sony 24-105 G lens. For the heck of it I took the same shots using my iPhone XS Max and it's panorama mode. Got back to my home and merged 5, then 7, then 14 or 15 shots in Light Room Classic on my almost new MacBook Pro. LR worked fantastic. Then downloaded iPhone shots. Then we drove over to the bay and the wind was howling. Got videos of a bunch of buys wind surfing. Took about 4 each with Sony and iPhone. After carefully looking at both Sony and iPhone results I am calling the Sony vs iPhone (on just these images) a tie.
Yes the Sony pano was slightly more detailed than the Apple. But only slightly. Same for the video. On the other hand the Apple was maybe twice as easy to use.
The Apple does not always or even often beat the full frame Sony but it is always easier to use and cheaper. Thanks for the suggestion to take panos.
This video reminded me of your older vids - thank you! Simple edit, no crazy techniques, showing the work flow, followed by the end result. Perfect and no fluff or boring stuff! Thank you.
ОтветитьWish I could Sub a dozen times. Thanks for another great advice video Thomas!
ОтветитьEnjoyed your video. I don’t have PS or Lightroom. Not sure this old brain can get her head around it. But watching your vids I just might learn some basics if I go down the path of getting those programs. I shoot with Nikon’s and only use Capture NX2 which is no longer being updated, so use Capture NX-D very basic program. I love taking photos but I’m no professional at it, just a hobby for myself. And don’t have the beautiful scenery you get to see. From a Downunder viewer. 🐨🦘🐞🕸🌝
ОтветитьStill using that 5d, huh?
ОтветитьThomas your l bracket is now not available, can you recommend one that would stop the lens sagging at the front? (ie one that lets the side of the camera in portrait mode be secured against the bracket? D810 / D850 here.
ОтветитьGreat video. I’m just starting out with Lightroom and think even I could manage this!
ОтветитьBy the way, love that B&W photo in the background as well
ОтветитьAppreciate your videos. Well done, always enjoy them and learn so much. Regards Brian
ОтветитьI’m super excited to see your panos through the year. Also don’t hold back on the editing videos, it’s always great to see your process. Keep it up mate! PS get to Australia!!
ОтветитьYou wont see much difference between spherical and cylindrical for a single row of images. You see the difference if the image collage is on multiple rows (like 3x3). Cylindrical will better maintain vertical lines, while spherical can create a bit more of a warp around the edges. Thats my experience anyways. :)
ОтветитьHi Thomas, great video, thanks! I noticed your comment about the graduated filter affecting the trees; you should try playing around with the new range mask feature, you can set it based on luminosity so it only affects the highlights etc. Really powerful feature brought over from Photoshop, but in a much easier to use fashion!
Ответитьlike, this tip and good. Nice! your work. Thank! sir.
