So let me get this straight.. Zuck admits that one bad scenario is if an opponent to the US gets a powerful AI, therefore... lets make sure they can ALL have the most powerful model by Open Sourcing it. So adversaries that had jack sh17 before, and posed zero threat, now have at least something as good as Llama 3?

It seems Mark is concerned another company is gonna create a much better A.I. and possibly leave Meta behind. He knows if everyone is forced to open source their A.I. Meta will always have a strong position in A.I. based on their current position.

In terms of him talking about the timeframe: Max Tegmark has a famous book Life 3.0 that talks about AI. he thinks its likely that if we can create an AI at least as smart as a human, well humans made that AI, so the AI likely can make a new AI thats smarter than itself. repeat that 10 times and you can go from about as smart as a human to super intelligence in mere days

Bottom line is that if a programmer is 10X more productive then the number of programmers can be reduced 90%.
He doesn't want to say that programmers will be replaced but we can clearly see that this is a difficult question for him because he knows the answer and the answer doesn't sound good.

I hope in the future people will understand, that being pretty rich in a society that is flourishing is much better than being so rich you cant even imagine the amount of money any more in a society that sucks because you cut out so many jobs. It is about time shareholders decide that profit margins are less important than creating a lot of jobs. Sadly right now the market doesnt do that. They sell shares if eps is lower than what they like and buy them if its going up after cutting many jobs to lower costs. Thats what capitalism will do in its raw form. Destroy society.
So yeah I think its time for people like Zuck, Bezos and Musk to step up and create jobs rather than create profits.
And they of course have created many jobs, dont get me wrong. I just think they need to focus more on advancing our society and making the world an amazing place to be rather than maxing out the marketcap of their company.
Thats why with all the (often rightfully) criticism Elon Musk is for example getting I still admire him for trying to solve problems like Self driving cars or landing rockets and what they do with neuralink as well of course. But then again FSD for example will at the end of the day put a lot of people out of their job, so we will need to find solutions for these things.

Zuck is so behind, made a good platform 15 years ago but isn't for AI minded be was more of an introvert wanted to be connected .. but 15 years later and several scandals , but needs to work on his ability to let others take the forefront and stop putting on a front of forward thinking.

Heard a lot of good things about Dwarkesh, bit disappointed. Is it just me who thought his questions were generic and lacking depth? What time would you go back to? Generic ai questions? Even mark seemed a bit confused. Still enjoyed hearing from Mark, he's a very interesting guy and more charismatic than before.
