A senior police officer in Southern Iceland says there are indications that groups of pickpockets are based out of Romania and are targeting tourists' pockets. There have been quite a few reports of pickpocketing at busy tourist spots in the South in recent weeks.

It was reported in an announcement from the police in Southland yesterday that two cases had arisen in the past week where pocket thefts were reported at Geysi. Attention was then drawn to the fact that 20 thousand krónur had been stolen by a tourist yesterday, also at Geysi, in the Facebook group Baklandi tourism .

The police in Suðurnesj also reported a similar incident at the end of January, where pounds and euros worth over 300 thousand ISK had been stolen from the car of foreign tourists in the same place.

Let’s be honest. Icelanders HATE the brokeass Americans who spend very little money camping around Iceland. They disrespect the land, litter, trespass, and poop everywhere. You should do an undercover documentary and bed in with a group and you will see for yourself.

You two are a hoot

Gas stations and markets sell decent sandwiches. 10-11 (like 7-11) has Sbarro's pizza for about $10 a slice with a drink. Breakfast and lunch are easy and inexpensive. Dinner we ate a variety of things, nothing really broke the bank. There are Subways, KFC, Taco Bell, Fridays and Hard Rock Cafe. There are NO McDonald's or Starbucks!

Never go hiking in jeans. Don't climb on glaciers without proper guidance. Don't try fording rivers in subcompact cars. Stay far away from any active lava flows. And yes, you have to pay to use public toilets in Iceland. The cost is usually around ISK 200 (about $1.50), and you can pay with Iceland coins some pay-per-use toilets accept credit cards.
