Motion Analysis Corp is also a good, and reliable mocap company. Many different mocap systems for animators and biomechanists.

I think you are a bit misinformed. Vicion Systems are more expensive than OptiTrack. A few years ago, Vicon cost nearly twice as much, but the price gap is now smaller because OptiTrack made a big step with their new Software. Vicon does 35 years MoCap, and OptiTrack only 10+ years. You can feel that Vicon is more for professionals but for students, Motive (Software of OptiTrack) is much easier to use. I use at the moment an OptiTrack System, but I would love (because of some features) to have a Vicon System :-)

Great informative video. If I heard correctly, did he say Rokoko is perfect for waist up, so would be best for upper body, arms, hands and head motion?

You said XSens is stable, but do you encounter any drift at all with your MVN Link? I'm skeptical about them since it's not optical and if Rokoko drifts, what's stopping XSens?

The software-as-a-service fees are like a hidden scam on the backend. Its one thing to drop 10k on a suit, only to find that you gotta 'rent' the software at outrageous prices just to make it work.

But yeah kinda freaky how i am thinking of you and 3D Capture for a potential personal project AND BOOM the world (algorithm/manifestation) serves you up.

how is Xsens MVN for face? I see you are showing a lo-fi avatar in real time there, but I'm not sure how that face motion is captured, cause you don't have a head-mounted cam. Is it using a camera that's far away? How would that map onto more detailed models?

Great comparison video. I totally agree with everything you mentioned. I love my Xsens Awinda Starter it’s just at the level where it starts to get pricey but still affordable for us small independents. The tracking data works well but sometimes you have minimal cleanup. Great review and thanks for having me featured in it. Keep up the great work👌🏾

none of you that have not seen a mocap suit can make an informed decision. I have two rokoko suits and pre ordered the coil but only came to that conclusion after going to SIGGRAPGH and seeing 5 different vendors in person. Some might benefit from some ai stuff while others really need a reliable suit. Rokoko has been great so far but your mileage may vary for your needs. MAGNETIC INTEREFERENCE - THEY ALL HAVE IT! If you think xsense is going to be the solution its not - drifting and post processing is something you have to deal with on your own no matter what.

@Daydream Studios Thank you for the review. I LOVE the room you set up. Is that your office or game room? For computer animation which suit would you recommend? I have been leaning towards Rokoko but now that I found these others I was thinking which would you believe is better for animation if money was not an issue.

This is a great video. Very informative. Do you know if it is possible to use OptiTrack solo? I work for a VR company and they have OptiTrack. They allow employees access to their Mocap studio for fun. I have a personal project that I want to use it for but I also don't want to bother my colleagues if I don't have to ask them for help. I will if it's not possible to use it by myself, I know some of them would gladly help, but I'd like to avoid it out of shyness.

good and true info and im like you already have MVN Xsens suit and its better solution as setup from angle and price for the quality from other angle but my problem with it the MVN software it quite expensive specially for me in my country now and the cloud solution not good also with them hopefully found solution for that soon to use it again, but also that from my point view

Thanks for sharing with us!
I work in the motion capture field and 3D in China actually and I think it helpful to hear from others here,
obviously the choice will very depend on the budget of who wanna do motion capture and where for what purpose.
Optical motion capture system like Optitrack/Vicon are the most accurate and production ready,
I used a Chinese version here and i was as good as this two brands.
Those inertial mocap system can be troublesome in a production,
for exemple the cheapest version of Noitom pn1 where you may lose 2/3 hours when the calibration fails sometimes and when the 3D actor cannot stand for 15 minutes without sliding away form the center of the scene.
I used an inertial motion capture system suit called FOHEART and they have a glove also under the brand VRTRIX and it was use it mostly for live-streaming and we was able to get hours of live and the limitation is the battery life time of the sensors. I wanted to know what do you think about Ipisoft that work with sensor detph camera or with two Kinect v2 who is accurate also when well setup for a small room and been use in many production before and by some game company also?
Nowadays Ai system are very well optimise and simplify,
there is a many option out on the market for every pocket,
just be aware of some video demo where they show only the best part only to make sure you buy it,
luckily we can figure out with some honest peoples from that community,
before buying one make sure you need it if not renting out are an option if needed only for one project or period of time. Xsens for indie are the choice and Optitrack for film and game industry are top notch!

Xsense makes a big mistake with milking subscription model.... I don't wanna invest in a suit that could be just a piece of cloth, without paying them every year for a software.

What do you think about Xsens software pricing? The "plus" version of their recording software, that allows you to use more than one suit and capture footage from a witness camera, is priced at $3250 per year. On top of that you still have to pay $230 per month to process the data and export it to fbx. How does the final cost compare when in context with the other solutions you covered?

Great review! I got the xsens awinda middle version myself and i found it to fit my needs the best as i dont want to be locked to a volume nor do i want to set up cameras each time i want to record. The only thing i wouldn't use it for is stunts and in bad weather as the data either looks bad or even gets corrupted on hard impacts.

I have an Xsens Awinda (mid level) and I did a bit of research and talking to Xsens reps. The main differences between Awinda and Link (high level) are that Link records up to 240 fps(!) while awinda just 60 fps, which might be why is looks cleaner to you, even though, frame for frame, they are the same. Also, since the awinda is based on straps and not a whole suit, it is one size fits all (put your kid in it!). Link can record into the suit itself, so you can be on a mountain top far from your computer or any wifi. An Xsens rep told me that Awinda is fine for basic movements, walking, running, talking, dancing. The link the necessary for more advanced stuff, like martial arts, "extreme" dancing, like with flips or crazy legs break dancing. The rest I think you mentioned. Thanks for these reviews.
EDIT: one more thing, if you want the ability to record multiple people at once, or to stream, you need to purchase the high level software for...wait for it...$34k!
EDIT: I love the "time to share our secrets" mentality. ALso, I think Wonder Studio deserves a closer look. It does a lot more than just mocap, but it also does that.
