Bugout Bag? What’s Inside and Why?

If you wind up needing a tourniquet in a bug out situation wouldn’t ya say your fucked anyway…of course no one wants to bleed out in two minutes but once you apply that thing I mean are you gonna be able to close off the artery well enough to remove the tourniquet so as not to bleed out before the thing does way more damage than you could possibly handle in that kind of situation?

In Australia we don’t have guns so a short bow or small size crossbow is your only option. There are a lot of dangerous things that can get you upset over here so you have to be aware of your surroundings. You do not need to carry a gun.

What brand and model is the pack?

I'm a hoarder so my bug out bag had to be a wheelbarrow. (Or something very much like one)

Butane can be an issue in cold weather.

I rotate my bag items 4 times per year, I do it with the weather change. Its October in Ohio, and I have already started to modify. Being in Ohio, cold weather items become a concern and take up more space so I tend to swap from a small survival pack to a large hiking bag. I double the weight in the winter, but many things I have in it are made to be worn. Clothing, first aid pack, and basic needs pack I wear. Then my bag is nearly as light as my summer time bag.

Great video! Lots of good ideas to think about and reconsider a few things in what I call my “Get Home Bag,” such as my excessive IFAK! Which is too heavy.

Here in central Florida i use a hammock with built in bug net, because it can be used on the ground or between 🌴🌴
Never know if i have to spend the night in a swamp or dry land..

I'm thinking revolver.
I have a .22 Taurus semi that jams occasionally.
Smith and Wesson MP9 never jams, though.
Collapsible rifle, maybe.
Thing is, how much can I carry for how long.
Hiking in Washington State, big Douglas Firs all around, wet and damp. Stepped on a slippery log.
I went down hard.
Pack was 50 lb.
I was lucky.

I live in Wyoming. Problems I've encountered.
1. Winter storm in July in the Bighorn mountains.
2. Nasty sun burn on the back of my neck and ears.
3. Splinters in my hands and fingers.
4. Dust or something in my eye.
They seem minor, but they have caused me problems often.

I carry everything in a runt shack and my haversack and I got everything you almost got to think as a bum is what you got to think of are homeless you'll get your general idea on what you got to carry and what you can't carry I have a hacksaw blade I have a nine and a half knife with me plus I carry my buck 110 knife that's all I need

I was iin Serbian infrantry we carried bare minimum when a surviving in the woods a 5kg bag one thing major would recommend to take is a few small face towels and soap hygiene should be NO 1 with saftey all you tubers never talk about how important hygiene is in a survival situation and having a small hygiene pack can save your life aswell

I totally disagree on the first aid kit. A tourniquet is of limited use in a bug out situation. Once you tightened it you cannot open it again and if you don't make it in a hospital fast the limb will dy and poison the rest of your body. That only buys you a little time, it does not solve any problems. Also most cuts don't affect a main artery so you just don't need it anyways. In the military they are used because you have good chances for medevac and only with that a tourniquet can save a life and mines and grenades generate specific wound patterns (ripped off limbs, deep holes from bullets and shrapnels that can reach arteries) you are not likely to see in a bug out situation. A tourniquet may be of use in the woods, e.g. when you are not alone, not to far from civilisation and e.g. you use a chain saw, you hunt with multiple shooters etc. But even in such scenarios 90% of the time a bandage pack is the better option.
If you have just one item for first aid have a small military bandage pack and lern how to use it including as compression bandage. I like the German army version ("BW Verbandpäckchen klein"), but there are a lot of similar products out there. If your bag covers multiple days have a iodine product to prevent infections since gangrene is absolutely deadly without medical intervention (If you can you may pack some antibiotics for the same reason). Third item is a couple of band-aids. They add no significant weight, take no space, keep a cut clean, are super-convenient and 80% of the time they are what you need if you bleed in the woods. If you or family members of you are not very active/don't wear boots regularly add some of these specialized blister plasters and apply them as soon as you feel some pain. Again: No weight, no space, but these little helpers keep you or your kids moving by avoiding pain/open flesh and keeping the moral up. If there still is space - pack a second/third military bandage pack. They are small, light, robust, multi-functional and they really make a difference if somebody is hurt. If you prepare for a multiple day scenario you wanna be able to change a bandage, especially when the wound ulcerates. After that you can have a tourniquet for some very special and unlikely situations where it could actually safe one's life.
A tourniquet is the last option to use so it shouldn't be the first option to pack.

A take down bow and a few arrows and broadheads along with possibly a Tim Wells Viper blow gun and darts added to that bug put bag would be great bonus for hunting purposes. Able to breaks down and pack up compact and super light, won't add much more weight at all.

nice gears ... but how about case situation when gasoline is not anymore available for your truck? instead we need to walk by foot. There we need to be minimalists .. reduce all the non essentials. As for me and my family we will only carry boots, jackets, blankets, tarps (instead of bulky canvas tents), foldable wood stove, some guns for hunting and self-defense along with the ammo, cooking pots and pans, antibiotics, some hygienic stuff .. that's all

Seein the bag being used to get home or A to B would be a cool video to see, I’m planning on testing my bag out to get home from my job, it’s 17 miles as the crow fly’s but ….. got some badly mountains an interstate 80 to cross.

The propane cooker is nice but why not a Rocket stove where you will not worry about fuel and there are rocket stoves that can make power for your cell phones or other devices. yes it is pricey.

I have a dig your heels in bag and circle of wagons!!
If it comes to a " Prarie Fire" EMERGENCY... well That'll be it then.
