Trump Sees Chance of 'Massive' Israel-Iran Conflict

President Donald Trump said Thursday Israel “could very well” strike Iran but that he had advised against an attack while negotiations were ongoing, as the departure of US staff from the region fans concerns about a coming assault. Hours later, Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, in a major escalation in the standoff over Tehran’s atomic program that risks sparking a new war in the Middle East. Explosions were heard in Tehran, according to local media. Iran had previously vowed to respond to any attack.
