Hello Peter. Can you please explain how the 2 dB & 4 dB correction factors are derived? TU es 73
ОтветитьPronounced: (Bal-Lun). But, fine video!
ОтветитьThank you very much for this great video ! I was looking for more explanations concerning de Baluns since some days... you did it ! I will continue with your next video. Vielen Dank und Grüsse aus dem Elsass !
ОтветитьDenk' an dich und lass' ihn fliegen - Neunundneunzig Luftballons.
ОтветитьNice video Peter, congratulations. However, you are not measuring the balun! you are measuring his VSWR only. You need first to check how well balanced is your device, measuring the phase and amplitude. CMRR measurement gives the quality factor of your balun, not your VSWR measurement!
You can have a device that looks like a balun with a wonderful VSWR that UNbalance your antenna!
I think that you must show your audience how to measure CORRECTLY a balun. Regards and congratulations again. Good luck
Best video on baluns period. I'd love to see some improved designa for 49:1 transformers. I found a Ruthroth type online that I'm using but I'm not sure I understand it that well. I'm not too keen on the standard 49:1 auto transformer that is all over the interwebs.
ОтветитьExcellent presentation. Many thanks.
ОтветитьThank you, fantastic job very well explained. I'm surprised out of 160 thousand views you only have 3,000 likes
ОтветитьThanks Peter, finally, I understand this test method!
Ответитьthis video is unwatchable if ur stoned hehehehe. good video tho
ОтветитьNot Theory anymore. Just FACTS proven with a VNA. Love it!
ОтветитьYea I'm sure you are delivering excellent information here, But for me, somehow I just can't get past the spoken cadence it's just monotonic enough that I can't listen as it starts to be rejected in my mind. Like if listening to the older type of voice synthesizers of the 80s.. I've tried a couple times and after about 5 or so mins it's all just being rejected from recall and starts to become tedious. damn. that is strange I've never experienced this before, the slow beat is a big part of it, I took the video and moved it into my daw and sped it up and kept the human pitch intact and it was a lot better but then very mechanical at that point.
ОтветитьExcellent - thank you!
ОтветитьBALUN NOT BALOON haha
ОтветитьNice video. But please, it is BALUN like in BA-LÙN not Baloon like in 🎈
ОтветитьLove to see someone actually doing important measurments. I'm so tired of only SWR being measured. Now I need to find out how to do this 1 with the TinySA 2 with the NanoVNA if possible.
ОтветитьBalun or Balloon ?
ОтветитьWhy is 1.5 or 2 swr "failing, hopeless"?
ОтветитьFantastic video series on baluns, thank you.
Question: the ptfe coated wire is very expensive, can silicone coated wire be used as a substitute?
Why you said ,many times ,"the balun convert 50 ohm to 200 ohm". if balun is made for this then reversely, balun should convert 200 ohm to 50 ohm to match because antenna itself receives signals too and it convert electromegnetic waves in to electric wave and passes to receiver.
ОтветитьCould you show a schematic of the way coils are wound very hard to follow the way you present.
ОтветитьExceptional tutorial and walk-through! I wish I had found this sooner. Thank you!
ОтветитьVery good explanations. Thank you! - But I honestly want to tell you that it's quiet uncomfortable to listen to you. No offense, but try to speak calm and relaxed. I'm sorry to say it, but I had to stop watching because you overemphasize every word so much that it gets very annoying, bit of a pity because it was very interesting.
ОтветитьI have two transformers. They are wound with double copper wire on a ferrite ring. They give suppression from -50 to -30 dB. I decided to connect them in series to increase the suppression parameter. But the parameters have not changed. The question is why?
ОтветитьHello, 20 dB is a good attenuation rate, but it is measured on the load of your test set, so it is useful just to compare to other balun under same conditions. In the real world the external surface of the coax cable braid will show a different radiation resistance depending on his length compared to the wavelength.
Next in your tests I don't understand why you put resistors on BOTH the balun ports to simulate balanced feeding AND loading: in the normal use one of the ports will be connected to an unbalanced system (the coax cable + VNA).
So what's the difference between a balun, an unun, and a matching transformer??? It is my understanding that my off center fed dipole long wire uses an unun at 4:1 and 44 feet on one side and 88 feet of wire on the other side. My Yaesu 991a internal tuner will handle all my antennae as they are close to being resonate. Cheers & 73 from W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
ОтветитьWould the common mode attenuation test you demonstrate here be possible with a nanovna?
ОтветитьMuy claro! excelente demostración! Thanks for all your jobs! 73! LW9ETR desde Argentina!
ОтветитьExcellent video. I learned something !
Ответить🎈❤
ОтветитьIf a picture is worth a thousand words, then a TRX video series explaining BALUNS and chokes is the mural of the Sistine Chapel, and many of the explanations presented elsewhere are simply cave paintings.
Thank you for bringing an EE analysis to the table, TRX. Your channel is one of the best out there, alongside W2AEW channel and The Signal Path channel.
Good video, waving from my tech bench. 73🇺🇸
ОтветитьI’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but they should refer to these as chokes and step up or step down transformers.
ОтветитьGreat explanation, thank you for your videos.
ОтветитьSo a bifilar wound toroid is better than a coax wound toroid
ОтветитьSchade das nichts über die Größe der Ferritringe gesagt wird.

ОтветитьIt’s not a balloon…. It’s a Balun, as in balanced / unbalanced…. There is no loon in unbalanced. 🤦♀️
ОтветитьThank you for this clear explanation. Everything I have made in the past and am still trying to get right has been wrong. I am too stupid for the hobby of ham radio. Goodbye.
ОтветитьExcellent work!!
ОтветитьA balun may be called a balloon or balune in your neck of the woods, but In my neighborhood it's called a balun (short U). Just saying. 🙂
Ответитьtook me a while to figure what those "corks cables " were about !
ОтветитьHi, I'm surprised that an antenna can be simulated by a normal 200 ohm resistor. I would expect that an antenna is an impedance resistance load witch would give a different result wen measuring. But for the Balun it seems to make no difference.
ОтветитьThank you so much for explaining function, propose, and quality of a balun. I saw part 3 and came back to get up to speed with 1 and 2.
Ответить🙂
ОтветитьTheo jest video.
ОтветитьAntennas are unbalanced not balanced. A 4 to 1 balun is for a 200 ohm antenna like a delta loop . The most you need for a dipole is a 1 to 1 so the coax is not part of the antenna. Any time you change the frequency you change the balance of the antenna. I mean a pure restive load, a dummy load, has perfect swr because the radio and coax and load are balanced.
ОтветитьThank you for this master class in baluns! I'm looking forward to viewing the entire series. BTW, for some reason, the FT naming system for toroids is Imperial and right in the name. An FT240 is 2.40 inches OD; an FT140 is 1.40 inches OD and so on.
