For anyone who cares: the 5 Core is based on a Sony CXA1619BS all-in-one AM/FM radio IC. This IC is reported as having been discontinued. Assuming it's genuine, perhaps 5 Core did a "last time buy" of as many as they could get? Maybe they are reclaimed, or clones/knockoffs? The one I saw looked to have had kind of a hard life and it was almost impossible to read the printing. The circuit board is far better made than the case.
There is very little room for the AC power supply and supporting components, assuming any of them have it. If any do, it looks to be mounted to the back half of the case.
The speaker is branded 5 Core, marked "4 ohm, 10 watts RMS" (!), which it'll never see from the output of the IC, not that it'd probably handle that kind of power anyway. Not for long, anyway...
Most of you didn't ask. Fewer of you care. Now you know.
Amazon set my Eton 750 like that with just the label on the box I was pissed
ОтветитьIt's really hard to find a true analog one through amazon for example, but I found one it was the dreamsky radio? if I'm remembering correctly.
Ответитьmuch love from india❤
ОтветитьWhere I live "Lafyatte La usa" as an public service eventhough all the radio stations are digital they keep thier analong sigel running so odder radios can pick up The Emergency Alert System (EAS). In fact the EAS was why altuoght 98% of the radio stations where I live are FM thier DJ though it was needed that we konw about the ost of AM Radio since the EAS needs AM Radio to work.
ОтветитьInstead fine tuning, the shortwave band needs to be broken up into a few. I have a Panasonic boombox radio with a finetuning knob, and it's annoying. You still skip stations with the main knob. The fine knob "wraps around" so you can offset only a few kHz with it. Single band radios like these usually start at 6 MHz, leaving a gap between mediumwave.
You can probably find god used radios on a local trading board. Probably not on eBay where antiques collectors sell everythign at rip-off prices.
What do we do when they start turning analogue signals off? I have some lovely radios and I certainly don't plan to stop using them.
ОтветитьI don't have any problem with the DSP in theory, I usually listen to the radio on an old receiver that has digital preset turning yet ironically is pre DSP, (I ASSUME given its late 90s manufacturer Jensen Walkman as better radio performance and is really impressive and poles stations from far distance, sometimes you have to go up the band and come back because it'll skip over stations it's so selective and the DSP does make it choppy in that regard to where you won't hear a real blend between stations, none the less it pulls in more stations by far than any other radio I have except for a Grundig shortwave and it sounds very nice
ОтветитьI have a Philips DL225 AM FM SW radio. Great stuff. Bought it 16 years ago. Still working perfectly.
ОтветитьWhen i was small living in ngp city in maharashtra, my dad had the collection of analog radios and which were made in late 70's and were designed in india, unfortunately i opened them all because i wanted learn how it worked but i was too small to study it 😢, but i got some soviet metal can transistors 😅
ОтветитьMade in indonesia..i am contry
ОтветитьGet the TECSUN R-9012
ОтветитьVery good
Very beautiful
Very important explanations
Thank you very much
Regards from Mumbai India

ОтветитьThe only way to listen to AM in 2023 is DAB+ the sound is like night & day
ОтветитьI have older version of Panasonic RF-562 which is labeled as 562D, not the DD2, and it is all analog with traditional smooth tuning and nice reception on all bands, so if you want old school so you should look for one of these.
ОтветитьI beg to differ, the Panasonic IS, in fact, an analog tuner. (unless they "upgraded" it , and I managed to grab an older one before they did so)
Have you looked at the Tecsun R9700DX - it is a true analog.
edit: you got the 562D which replaced the 562 (which IS an analog tuner. quite a good one actually)
the Suzuki DR-650 Carberated Motorcycle. introducted in 1990 is still as of 2023 being manufactured still carberated thats awesome
ОтветитьI still enjoy buying non working radios and taking the time to repair them. After a detailed overhaul, I find them to be much more reliable than newer radios, even analog ones
ОтветитьThe 5 core is super nice, radio, but the build quality is a complete train chrash, avoid
ОтветитьIndia might gives more importance to function than external beauty at very affordable prices for mass
ОтветитьSony ICFP26 Portable AM/FM Radio
ОтветитьHonestly I kinda like that “digital aliasing” thing I think it makes it sound interesting
ОтветитьHey Kevin, I have to say that this video was very effective for me. The last boombox to have analog tuning is the Panasonic RX-DU10 here in Malaysia and the last unit to exist on the shelve.
ОтветитьI bought one last week
It beats all any any of those Chinese digital radios.period.
cool!
ОтветитьWe had this in our Village home .. growing up in 90s decade in india...
ОтветитьWell I kept my 60s 70s and 80s radio's and I have a new 2008 radio.
Big difference
Ty and another great video
God bless you and your family Brother 👪
The 5 core didnt filter out a high pitch noise (sounded like the 16KHz CRT noise) in AM, except for the station you chose at the very end, that one was clear.
ОтветитьPerfect indian radio done in the shed with flip-flops on.
ОтветитьShouldn't there be a lot of old used analog radios for sale on sites like EBay as well as others ?
ОтветитьI'm not a radio guy by any means but I think the Motobras brand here in Brazil uses a digital receiver with mechanical tunning... is it the same thing you are looking for?
ОтветитьSoviet Union made some incredibly reliable transistor radios.
Ответитьthis radio is junk. Dont buy it.
Ответитьnational bird of China , national bird of Mexico , the national bird of Norway , national bird of Congo , national bird of Indonesia
kite ..... kites kites .....kites
It's not very good, but I have a Kaito KA200 Pocket AM/FM Radio and it appears to have a true analog tuner? It's hard to tell because the radio itself is like 10 dollars and not very good
ОтветитьThe RF562DD (without the 2 on the end), is an analog circuit. I guess they 'improved ' it. :-(
ОтветитьIn the Philippine you can still find analog radio
ОтветитьI have one of those GE radios you showed tuning. I use it daily. Most of the time I never turn it off.
ОтветитьThe last radio I bought was a Radio Shack pocket-size job and it turns out that it was cursed with DSP. You just couldn't tune in anything on AM. The radio flipped and flapped all over the place.
ОтветитьIt’s just like vinyl, you have a better quality. If you don’t mind the quality you can use your cell phone to play music over Bluetooth but if you really like quality definitely stick with vinyl.
ОтветитьI'm truly shocked! Appearances were truly deceiving. I may have to look for this one!
ОтветитьExcellent report.
I have an Asatron R-105USB made in Indonesia. I am sure it is analog. It is also sold under the Toshiba name for five times the price
Is it for sale ? If so pls contact
ОтветитьJust because you can't hear any choppiness doesn't mean it's analog. It could just be a faster chip...
Ответитьsounds like crap LUL
ОтветитьThis channel always reminds me of Technology Connections. I would love to see a channel crossover someday.
