Playing Field: The field is 100 yards long with End Zones and Upright posts at each end of the field (for a total of 120 Yards). The field is marked in increments of 5 yards but visibly numbered every 10 Yards (this in important for the play of the game)
Team: The whole team is made up by 53 players but only 11 players are allowed on the field during plays. The 53-Man Roster is split into 3 separate Task groups that play at different times in the game. You have Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. Offense tries to score, Defense tries to not let the other team score, and Special Teams takes care of the special plays such as Kick-Offs, Punts, and the other odds and ends of football.
Length: The game consists of four 15-Minute Quarters. After the first 2 Quarters are completed, a significant break is taken referred to as “Half Time”. The first 2 Quarters are referred to as “First Half” and the second 2 are referred to as “Second Half”. Each team has three 30-Second timeouts per Half. The game clock does not run continuously, as it only runs when the play is active.
Objective: The point of the game is for the Offense to get the ball to the opponents End Zone (Called a Touchdown). The offense has 4 tries or “Downs” to move the ball a minimum of 10 Yards. If they were able to advance the ball 10 Yards, their down will be reset and they will have another 4 attempts. If they do not advance the ball in 4 attempts, the ball is turned over to the opposite team at the spot of the ball. The ball can be moved through the air or on the ground.
Scoring: There is multiple ways to score in Football. The most common way to score is through a Touchdown, which awards the team 6 Points. Upon completing a touch down they will be required to go for an extra point. They have the choice of kicking it through the up-right for 1 Point or scoring another touchdown known as a “2-Point Conversion” which will award them 2 points. Both of these are done from 25 yards away from the End Zone. The second most common way is to kick the ball through the upright at any point in the drive where a Touchdown wasn’t scored. This will award the team 3 points. There are other ways to score through penalties that are much more uncommon but award the team 1 to 3 points.
That is just the absolute basics of the game. However, here are some more little details that might help you go a little more in depth.
- Before each half OR after a scoring drive (Touchdown/Field Goal) a “Kick-Off” will occur. The ball will be kicked from the kicking teams 30-Yard line and the receiving team will have to recover the ball. This will determine where the ball starts for the teams Offense. The Kick-Off is done by the Special Teams on both sides (Kicking and Receiving). It is possible to score a touchdown after receiving the ball on a Kick-Off.
- Once a team has reached their 4th down, they will have a few options but it will always depend on where they are on the field. They can attempt to gain the rest of the yardage they need to complete the First Down, but if they risk failing and turning the ball over at a location that gives their opponent an advantage. The most common method is to “punt” the ball, in which the live ball is kicked down the field for the opponent to recover and take possession. This is ideal because it typically pushes the opponent further away from scoring position. If the team is close enough to the End Zone, but not willing to risk turning the ball over, they can’t elect to kick a Field Goal which will award them 3 points.
- There are lots of penalties and they essentially make up the game of Football. Penalties will cost the team Yardage or Downs depending on the infraction made. Penalties are such a big part of the game that it’s part of the teams tactics to force them on the opponent to give them the disadvantage. It’s pretty complex, so you would just have to watch a game to learn it all.
- The ball can be turned over before 4 downs if the defense is able to recover the ball under certain circumstances between downs. The defense can intercept a ball in the air or they can recover a loose ball on the ground (a fumble). Both of which will award them possession.
- Positions are not inherently important to know, but I’ll go over the basics. Just know that in football you have depth at you multiple people who play the same position. They will play based off the scenario or point in the game. We call this Position Depth and you may hear it referred to as String-1, String-2, etc. On offense, you will have a line of players at the front. They have individual positions but it’s commonly just referred to as the Offensive Line. The most center guy is called the Center and he will be the guy starting with the ball. Behind him is the Quarterback. The Quarterback is the play called and started. They’re typically the best arm on the team, the most popular person on the team, and the highest paid. Behind the Quarterback is Halfback (Runningback), and they specialize in all the running plays and ground work. They’re typically the fastest, toughest and most agile guys on the team as they get hit the most. After the Halfback is the Fullback. The Fullback essentially does what a Runningback does, but they’re usually bigger in size and slower. They’re meant to be the punch to get a few yards when it matters. On each side of the Offense Line will be your Wide Receivers. They are the ones catching the throws from the Quarterback down the field on throwing plays. If it’s a running play, they tend to just be used as blockers or distractions. Lastly, you have the Tight End who is lined up near the receivers. This is usually the largest eligible (player who can receive the ball) players. They’re a hybrid player. They can run, catch and even throw the ball, but they also are used to protect the quarterback by blocking defense.
On Defense you have a line similar to offense known as the Defensive line. This line tries to push the Offense Line out of the way so that other defensive positions can get to the Quarterback or ball. Behind them is the Linebackers. These are the biggest and fastest dudes on defense. They’re job mostly consists of trying to get to the Quarterback or blocking throws from the Quarterback. In the very back of the field you have the Corners and Safety’s. These guys just try to prevent the receivers from catching the ball or making it to the End Zone.
If this was the game then am the messi of the american football
ОтветитьThis is rugby but with amour and you can throw towards. Defo not football tho
ОтветитьI just wanna join my high school team fr
ОтветитьI have to say its the most complicated sport in the entire world
ОтветитьJust get rid of the annoying music .will you?
ОтветитьI’m just trying to understand how madden 23 works😂😂
ОтветитьI'll never understand how this is America's favorite game
ОтветитьOn 4th down I can go for it if you don’t get it possession is rewarded to the opponent. Times when to go for it is usually when it’s a 4 and 1/2 and ur in the middle of the field or you need to score a touchdown or the other team wins (desperate moment)
ОтветитьTurn up the music please
ОтветитьBoooooooooring
