Yes it is a complex disorder… one thing I learned getting my degree in psychology was in neuroscience and intro to clinical psychology and therapy was the understanding that disorders like DID, multiple personality disorder, is that you don’t have multiple personalities… it’s why they changed it to Dissociative identity disorder because it’s actually a neural disregulation disorder. It occurs because unlike having multiple personalities, which can actually happen if the corpus colossum is removed or not present, it is actually closer to a severe bipolar disorder, meaning that when something works as a trigger you enter a sort of manic or depressive state, usually highly impulsive and/or aggressive. And even more fun, there’s some connection between bipolar and DID and can even look a lot like it. To treat it you’ll need mood stabilizers, therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy, and it can even be treated by ketamine treatment, though it is theoretical and not rlly even studied or proven.
