There is now a "Software and Game Development" Category on Twitch, you all did it !

It's because twitch is a s*w rubbish heap.
The man was bunned on his twitch stream, becouse he show a "hot tube" twitch channel on his stream.

The majority of "Gamers" rather watch titties and moronic crap, than learn how to be useful. Twitch caters to children and immature adult age people. Nobody cares about understanding game development, until the game they want is broken or running late. It's a thankless and misunderstood vocation, full of abuse by corporations and thumb suckers. Thankfully it pays well, so most of us don't need to get 'famous' through idiotic social media websites. Twitch can piss off and die for all I care.

I feel like this does nothing but hurt the people in the new category as it just means less advertisers, They probably earn money elsewhere and that's why it works in this situation.

I don't like that website because it's not actually twitches site.. They don't actually listen to it. You're better off asking everyone to literally harass support until their support managers finally grow the balls(and are tired of the support tickets related to that topic[it eats into their ticket solved counter, making their department stats look bad] to relay the message to the higher ups.)

A "live streaming platform for gamers" made a hot tub category before a game development one. 🤦‍♂️

It's ridiculous, proper categories for topics dirctly adjacent to gaming, especially when it's creative stuff should definitely be included. For some reason they see no money in it but people love to see an artist's process. And then you have hot tubs, which is yet another way for Twitch to capitalize on sex without actually capitalising on sex. If I sculpt a boob on Twitch I'm banned while hot gamers are making thousands sitting around in bikini outfits. Not bitter towards any of the creators btw, but there's room for both. If only it wasn't such a hastle with monetization Twitch could easily add an 18+ section so all dodgy artists, sex workers and people who inexplicably can't keep their shirt on could use the biggest streaming platform too.

The shitiest thing is, sure, I can't even be on the platform, but without those categories you being on the platform is basically the same experience, you have to make your own traffic.

If hot tub category will be implemented then I will make a new stream site so we can move there xD

I used to get decent growth when the Unreal Engine category was active. Then it disappeared and then we have to go into Sci and Tech and boom, no growth. I agree man, game dev needs it's own category.

Ehhh it's disappointing. Ever since I got into game development myself, I find it hard to look at games the same way. E-sports and looking at games on a surface level just don't interest me. It would be cool to have a dedicated section in game development, to see what goes on behind the scenes. The stuff people come up with always amazes me.

Tried streaming once on twitch, and the category I ended up selecting was "Unreal". But what would a Unity user choose then?? I guess "Hot Tubs".

The problem is that categories are not there to help viewers and streamers. They are there for the advertisers. If enough advertisers request a gamedev category to better target their ads then we will get one. If they are not interested, we won't get one. Streamer or viewers, we are the product.

My frustration was real about this, starting to stream some dev the last weeks. We dont even have a spot to sit.

So you know what to do:
-Get yourself a hot tub.
-Strip to your shorts.
-Move the microphone to the side so we can see your body at all times.
-Scale the screen-share to like a quarter of the video size with the rest being filled with your wet glistening body.
And you will get Subs and Views for days.

... But for real this would probably be a great gag and gain you some more subs, because more people browse the hot tubs section. And if nothing else it also has great meme potential.

oh my god twitch ofc they didnt listen, I already voted and lets hope this changes. I still remember that the only way I got to know about HermDev and his interesting scifi roguelike game on unity was because you raided his channel while I was watching, there is absolutely 0 change that I would have found him at all as things are right now, and he among a lot of other developers deserve more attention and I'm sure that they can get it if twitch actually tries a little bit to get Game Dev category working.
