The old man is actually very evil he was willing to kill other just for his entertainment

I think he smiling as he plays as he as someone suggested enjoying the games he used to play as a kid.
He did say he lost faith in humanity a long time ago.
But he met a man who he connected with and had fun playing games with.
A friend who liked him like a father even loved him like a son losing his father, who cried for him when he thought he was going to die.
That may of made him a bit happy and thus why he confessed and confronted him with the truth in the end.
He was ubber rich and had everything but nothing in the end, rich people like him don't have friends or family that really care for him, just the money.

He did such a good job at showing his sweet old man side that I felt offended when the final reveal came. I haven’t felt this betrayed by an old man character since grandpa joe in willy wonka and the chocolate factory. Taking advantage of the fact that they’re old and someone younger is around to use so they can relive childhood experiences. That is not cute in both cases.

Another clue: he was the last one to cast his vote during the vote about the termination of the game and he voted 'no'. Didn't make sense to me then bc I thought he wanted to play the game as he was dying already. Makes sense now. He wanted participants to have a chance to leave and return if they wanted to.

The real Squid game is happening in every country. The key point to Squid Game was when they were playing chess and the people had to jump hoping the glass square they landed on did not bring them to their death! The foreign onlookers participating and watching are the different countries ( their elite or 1%) Do people really think the richest people in the world want another LV bag or Maserati?! NOPE!
