Just a small question, you already have a synology nas, why are you running home assistant on raspberry pi rather than running homeassistant on synology? (Vm or docker) Synology already working 7x24 and you can use snapshot, hyperbackup etc for ha backups

Question? Should all the hubs be together like that? Interference or none responsive in HomeKit and more importantly, the main orbit router (also in a closed closet) Do it affect the wireless 6E signal specifically in a closed location like that in such a big house?

What’s the wall box where all the wires are coming out of? I’m new to the smart home set up and trying to do it right. Is there another router outside of the Orbi WiFi mesh router that you recommend because those prices are high.

Normally, I love your channel and recommend it all the time, but as to network racks: just say No. that’s 1980s design intended for hardwired devices. NOT radio frequency protocols like Zigbee, Wi-Fi, thread, Lutron’s clear connect, etc. all of those are Omni directional signal, and they need space to expand without interference from each other. Ideally, each of your hubs should be 3 m apart. I know hardly anybody does that, but that’s best practices.

Sure, plenty of people do just what you do, get a cool rack and have all the hubs right next to each other, and if it works for you, I’m happy for you. But if you have any issues with quality of service on your various networks, the first thing to try is getting your hubs farther apart, and away from all that metal!

True, you can’t hide it all in a closet, and there may be some aesthetic decisions to be made, but definitely if you’re doing a video for other people to watch, bring it into the 21st-century, and set it up for wireless protocols. Your Zigbee and thread devices in particular will thank you.

Carry-on. 😎

ooof.. dry wall anchors.. you should definitely find some studs and maybe put a piece of wood on them to mount your rack to...

I do suggest everyone get a WiFi mesh system. They are costly but no more headaches. This a nice house I would not get this Netgear trash but either TP-Link Omada gear or Ubiquit gear.

Did you have any issues connecting your Aqara hub to the Orbi router? I have an older Orbi mesh router and was not able to connect an Aqara hub, since the Orbi app doesn’t support splitting the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz bands.

You have a raspberry pi. Why not install homeassistant then you could get rid of some hubs. You could also mount some of the small white hubs vertically or on a board then you could get the modem on that shelf which will free up the top for the nas

Sorry for being kind of a downer here.... but I like your videos. This rack is a let down. I just wish you had put in a bit more time into the cable management and making them all the same type of cables, do some labels.... fit everything into the one rack.... but glad to see you got it all fixed up. Def. an improvement over what you had! Get yourself some Unifi patch cables, or similar. Glad to see you hardwired the satellite. I feel a lot of people rely on the mesh networks... I can't stand the buzz word 'mesh' has become. I am running Unifi APs and Protect for cameras, hardwired the home.... so I have a bit of a chip about mesh wifi's. Looking forward to seeing more of our videos. Thanks for opening your home to us!
