A masterpiece of boss design

They say you don't know what a story is really about until you've written it, which I think is part of what makes the DLC for each game stand out among From's content. Completing the base game gives them something to build on top of and realize everything the base game was moving towards. I personally consider The Old Hunters to be among the best content From has ever created, and Ludwig shines as one of the most compelling creative designs in their entire catalogue. The added weight of incorporating the Moonlight Greatsword, essentially an icon of the entire studio's legacy, is sublime and lends a presence to Ludwig that extends even beyond Bloodborne.

Bloodborne was my first Soulsborne game and it is also my favorite.
Ludwig is for me the best Boss of all Soulsborne game, i love the lore and of course his Theme.
Everthing is perfect.

I see Ludwig's tragedy is much akin to Fulgrim from Warhammer 40k just a bit more murderous and less vain. I wouldn't be surprised if the sword in fact possessed him and aided in his fall from grace.

Ludwig is by far my favorite fight in the game with Gehrman as a close second. Everything about his fight is amazing. The soundtrack, his design, the arena, and his moveset

I also want to point out that the cut scene where he pulls out the moonlight sword is so brilliantly shot with his humanoid part of his face.

Huge amount of bs here. The boss was good, but this is clearly overthinking his design.

Before the fight it was just one of many swords that had no role in my playthrough of any soulsgame but post Ludwig Foght this weapon became a must have in any Intelligence Run that I do.

FUN FACT: during the second phase, serrated weapons lose the bonus damage they deal against beats, so do blood gems that deal damage to beasts, such as the one we get from Amelia. This is because Ludwig recovered his sanity when he saw his Moonlight sword again, implying that the Scourge of Beasts is largely a state of mind, not a disease, and can in fact be prevent or reverted if certain cobditions are met. Small detail with astronomical relevance.

usually its the other way around too, you fight the more humane character who second phases into a beast.

you could use literally any boss on bloodborne as "a masterpiece of boss design" tbh

I think that clothing Ludwig has, might be an ordinate tapestry of the church. A decoration, like you would see entering an important place, since his clothes would not (I think) grow with him over time. Just a thought.

I love how even though Ludwig’s return to sanity is a glorious demonstration of his resolve, and an example of the human will overcoming the horrors of this world, it still contributes to the overall despair and hopelessness of the game, as now the symbol of resistance against the nightmares is trying to kill you with all his might. The allies you have are few and too weak to make a real difference, if they don’t decide to kill you. The ones who were strong enough to help you have already lost.

I love how after been presented as a powerful man throughout bloodborne, we see here that in a world with no hope, the power of true humanity and valour rise up, despite the situation. not only do I think it is a beautiful representation as mankind's ability to have hope and true emotion even though, especially in Bloodborne's world, we are so insignificant. When I first saw Ludwig's "redemption", it brought to me a hope in which I feel like I lost as I played through the game and I think the deprivation of that as a whole throughout the rest of the game really made this scene so compelling.

Bloodborne is the best souls game in my opinion. So unique and horrifying and beautiful at the same time.

What is that game?

Played Bloodborne, but I think it is my least favorite game by From Software. Something about it just didn't do it for me.

For me personally, the hardest boss to overcome. Took me ages. And when I did overcome it felt amazing

The will of Ludwig overcoming his transformation is probably one of the coolest scenes in the series for me. I've always been a sucker for symbolic 'make-or-break' moments for characters and Bloodbourne executed this very well

I'm not a fan of horror in general, but I absolutely love From Software's penchant for designing grotesque, visceral abominations that simultaneously unsettle you and put you in awe of how epic they are.

It’s a disgrace that this game is held captive by Sony.

Bloodborne is From's magnum opus, and I don't see them ever topping it. There are few games that utilize environmental storytelling as well and as organically as in this title.

Armored Core 6 will give Ludwig's animations a run for their money.

From soft really knows how to nail the theme of "fallen glory" or "corrupted majesty". Bloodborne is one of the greatest games ever made

Easily top 2 Bloodborne bosses if not the best alongside Gerhman and quite possible top 5 Fromsoftware bosses ever
