Im pretty sure Dooku thought Sidious would allow him to be arrested and pardoned. He didn't think Anakin would kill him. But this also shows Anakin is a hypocrite.

iirc Dooku didn't actually dispatch Obi-Wan easily in the novelization, he was actually quite shocked at how well Obi-Wan doing in their duel and had to really start trying hard to beat him, which was all part of Obi-Wan an Anakin's plan. Since Obi-Wan was master for Form III he was deliberately just trying to wear him out before Anakin could then come in with his more attacking Form V style and defeat him. They'd been perfecting that strategy ever since they last fought Dooku and it's part of what made them a near unbeatable team.

I always figured palpatine locked him down and stole his voice and that slightly shaking his head was all he could muster.

Here's the real reason Dooku knew Anakin would never let him live:

He cut off his arm, and he wanted revenge.

Obi-wan being p'owned by Dooku merely gave Anakin the "dad isn't looking, now you die!" path of reasoning that translated to, "THIS IS MY CHANCE!"

I still feel like Dooku should have at least tried to expose Sidious. He had nothing to lose and could only stand to gain his life and possibly save the Separatist alliance considering his master is clearly a traitor.

Except that Anakin. Regretted it, goin as far as to say he shouldn't have, an he hesitated, so it seems he ASSUMED Skywalker would kill him if he lost. So begs a question we'll probably never really know. Would Anakin have killed Dooku anyways had it all went the same way but Sideous WASN'T there or if Anakin wasnt TOLD to kill him?

It clearly was not inevitable that Anakin would kill Dooku, since he wouldn’t have if not commanded by the Galactic Chancellor.

And Dooku seemed surprised by Palpatine’s betrayal.

I also think it’s clear that Dooku didn’t expect to lose. I think his defeat was quite a shock to him.

I figure from all the times they fought during the Clone Wars, how amazingly pissed off Anakin seem to be during them at times, Dooku would of figured it out sooner.

I'm torn on Dooku. I love Christopher Lee and the character of Dooku, but I really think the prequels could have been more enjoyable to watch if they had Maul as the main apprentice for all 3 movies. Episode 2 could have had an awesome comeback with droid legs like in the Clone Wars show. But I do love Count Dooku and his regal nature, and great dueling abilities.

I prefer the movie version on this one too, because I felt it was more subtle and less fanboy recycling of Return of the Jedi. It never made sense for Palpatine to give Skywalker force advice, since he’s supposed to be playing the role of defenceless senator, not a force user - and he’s completely exposing himself ahead of schedule with his dark side preaching. It doesn’t make any sense, and it’s just cheesy writing. In the real version, Anakin didn’t use the dark side to win, rather it was the act of murdering Dooku that pushed him further down the dark path. I do feel his barriers were burning down during the fight, but he kept his cool for the most part and fought as he always had, hence why he didn’t kill the count outright after defeating him. With a little permission from Palpatine, Anakin finally let himself release that anger.

I find it funny whenever palpatine says “he’s to dangerous to be left alive” because he’s only saying this because dooku is a loose end. The only danger of keeping him alive is to himself.

I always thought part of the silence was because he lost both hands. Dueling was an art for him and he saw mechanical limbs as a bad thing. In that instant he was robbed of his greatest skill.

I like the interpretation that Dooku simply accepted death because he wanted to die with dignity, because Christopher Lee is awesome

hate how they wrote book versions of the movies. changing a shit load of what we saw

Not to mention the awesome early drafts of ROTS where Dooku tells Anakin that HE paid the Sand People to kidnap and murder his Mother. This is what set Anakin off and made him willing to pay Dooku, not some old guy saying "Dew it."

I always thought Dooku's character deserved much more than the quick defeat/death that was given to him in Revenge of the Sith. He seemed very underrated in my opinion. A better ending for him would've been to get a chance at redemption. Maybe only after losing his hands Anakin and Palpatine could've just left him to his fate on the ship, but have him survive and make it to Coruscant by some means. After getting a couple of prosthetic hands it would've been interesting for him to challenge Anakin/Darth Vader one final time at the Jedi Temple in an attempt to save the younglings. This way he wouldn't have been knocked off too soon and died much more honorably.

Why didn't Anakin think to question Palpatine after the fact???

He's old. He probably forgot Palpatine was evil...

I remember in the book the dark side allowed Dooku to see everything that had transpired. That the meaning of his entire life had been for him to be the first murder by Anakin Skywalker. That realization would prevent rational thought in anyone.
But you have to love hearing Emperor Do It giving Anakin permission.
