The bottom line is there really isn't very much that you can do right. And even when you do everything right, there will be something new for TSA officiers to find. You have no choice but to be polite and go with the flow. You are at their mercy. I like the idea that you should wear undergarments, tights, tank tops because if you have to strip the top layer, at least there is something underneath.

I had my hair up in a clip. When I got out of the machine, I thought the TSA officer said something about my "bum". I had no idea that she wanted me to take down my "bun"!!! We both laughed.

What about a burka?

I haven't flown in over 40 years. I don't really plan to, either. But this was fun and informative nonetheless. You're charming, my dear.

Thank you for all your useful and practical advice. Now and then we tend to have our thoughts a bit unorganized - especially if we are just going on a nice summer vacation and somehow pay less attention. I find that when I am flying alone, I am always well-organized and do not lose stuff or daydream.

What i find ridiculous is that in USA you have to push everything through. In UK everything goes in the huge bins you push it on to the main belt and it goes with and extra nudge from the security people. We dont touch it again till ot comes out the other side

I am not going to watch this video because it will upset me. I am 80 years old and remember when flying was fun and the passengers were not treated as criminals and the accommodations were not the equivalent to steerage in an immigrant ship in the mid-1900s.

Just about every time I fly from Florida, I get pulled out of line and searched in a private room because I wear an insulin pump. Insulin pumps have been ubiquitous for diabetics on insulin for about 20 years. I got my first one in 2020. It is obvious that the device is connected to my body with an inset and a plastic cannula but the low wage people that TSA hires in FL act like this is the first and only time they've ever heard of an insulin pump. And don't get me started about traveling with a medically prescribed diabetic alert service dog. I've had my service dogs X-rayed at the Orlando airport "just to make sure they didn't have a bomb inside." What about looking at the dog's stomach where it would be obvious if they'd recently had surgery. Oh no, they never thought of that although they have patted my dogs down with some kind of sticky swab that left them rather gooey afterwards. (They are AKC Poodles and had just been groomed both times it occurred. Gorgeous haircuts ruined.) Again, just another reason to hassle diabetics. Never heard of a diabetic alert service dog? Where have these people been? We've been training them since 1966. Wackos police the booths at TSA in every airport, oh oddly NOT in California. When I fly out of CA, never a problem with a service dog or an insulin pump. What's the difference between FL and CA? Wages and level of education. Vote BLUE in 2024 & forevermore!

Do not take your eyes off your personal items or they will vanish when they drag you aside to wand you or anything else keep your eyes on your belongings at all times because they're not let you touch you belongings They need time to steal from you

Do not wear a knee brace that has the hinges at the side or velcros around because they will stop you You will have to stand there and wait while people steal your purse while they swab you down for gun residue they'll swab your pants your knee brace and your hands

The grounded coffee probably shows the same as cocaine on the scanner. We had this on the return journey from Israel.The whole group purchased sea salt from the death sea, and we were all pulled aside because it was showing as drugs on the scanner. Certain items show differently.

you don't have to wear anything to be pulled for extra screening, just lock ARABIC and you will be pulled.
my Daughter, was pulled for extra screening and actually more like interrogation two times in Houston int. just because she wears Hijab.

I worked for a short time at SFB, just outside Orlando. People were constantly getting tagged with Yankee Candles and Snow Globes. Neither could go into the cabin. Candles can be melted down to smuggle stuff, and snow globes, liquids could be replaced with explosives, so many could not travel with their souvenirs. Such a waste and sad, lovely things being discarded. Also, so many little old ladies forgot to check their pocketknives in their purses.

I had a hair barret set off security, and this was before 911.

I would add, this traveling in the USA. For international, liquids are different, just don't bring a lot regardless of the measurement. They will take it away

My biggest problem with TSA, and I have precheck, is traveling with meds that have to be kept cold. I have a special bag that has a frozen ice bag in it. I checked the TSA site, they said it was ok frozen. The problem was, even with knowing that, and with a written prescription, showing it must be kept cold, the TSA opened the bag, kept it open for inspection, letting out all the cold, for almost 45 mins. Ruined a $5000 medication dose which i had to replace, out of pocket, at my destination (overseas). I was in tears!

Protip for someone who likes to carry EVERYTHING in their pockets. Carry an empty grocery tote with you. While you wait on the long security line, everything out of the pockets and into the bag! Coins, keys, cellphones, earpods, etc. When you're nearly to the point of putting belongings in gray bins, just plop that sucker in one bin with your outerwear (so you don't have to empty those pockets) ie, coat, scarf, hat, (in my case, waistcoat); kick off your shoes, plop those in a bin with your carryon and walk right thru.

Pick up all your stuff on the other side and you can either carry the tote to the gate or step off to the side with it to return all your worldly belongings to their proper pockets at your leisure without holding anybody up on line on either side.

Also, bring empty water bottles to fill up at the water fountain after security. You won't have to buy any and it's important to be well hydrated for your flight. Just make sure to hit the bathroom 45 mins before boarding; you don't want to be dancing in your seat during takeoff, especially if your plane has a delay on the tarmac.

After the bathroom, I usually put moisturizer on my face and hands along with applying lip balm, because it is hella dry on those planes. Keep plenty of lozenges handy in an easy to access outer pocket of your carryon. Keep your takeoff/landing gum in there too (to save your ears from pressure changes).

Elastic shoe laces work great for easy off and on !!
