I mean, the whole reason the gym leaders exist is to see if people are capable of challenging the elite four and champion. Making them too difficult would kind of counter that point

The only drawback with having the ability to travel in any order around Paldea is that you can end up battling at a gym set at close to level 20, when your Pokémon are level 50.

Weird that Iono is the gym leader for this comic when (for me at least) she was the hardest gym leader for her recommended level. Her bellibolt was quite formidable and her Mismagius should be tried for war crimes

Just wish that Nitendo expanded on the whole difficulty level that Black and White 2 introduced. Gen 5 has it's flaws yes, but that is also the gen where we saw the most experimenting in terms of gameplay.

Like I really liked the 3 triple battle/rotation battle concept. Instead what we have now is a new power up concept every single gen.

He's not wrong. I remember Misty's Starmie wrecking my team in RB. Then there was the level spike going from Erica to Koga.

I felt this exact same way earlier. I work at a game store and was giving packs of Pokémon cards to some excited kids and just after that the guy behind them was pissed because we didn’t have anymore elite trainer boxes in stock and made a huge scene.

Except that is meta thinking.
In universe Gym leaders are like the army for that town and the gym challenge is a way to procure powerfull individuals for the Elite 4.
It is not supposed to be a "fun little challenge for kids".
In the way the gym challnege is designed it is more a challenge for the gym leader than to the trainers.

At this point I gave up wanting a harder challenge in Pokémon and I came to accept that they will only make games for that one 5 year old who never heard of Pokémon. Looks like I’m stuck in nuzlock and no item hell from now on.

This explains a LOT about the whole gym system.

Just because of this i wish they would do a extra challenge with all the gym leaders at max level to make you wish they would go easy on you.

NGL...the gyms in S/V are pretty lame. Usually Pokemon Gym's have a neat little gimmick/puzzle.

Yeah if the Gym Leaders wanted to they could totally just bust out a hard counter to whatever is strong against their main type theme. Just to be pricks lol.

Then the douche goes and makess a fan game where the pokemon in the first gym are with max ev/ivs, high level attacks such as hyper beam and are all 30 levels above you....

Iono is actually one stronger gym leaders in that game, especially if you fight her third like I did.

Me and my family play Pokémon together. After Black and White, nothing is challenging anymore.

Pokemon games not being "hard enough" is why we invented nuzlocks.

You play with items? I was too cheap for items. I would just hoard everything for the Elite 4.

I mean she's not wrong.........but man it would be nice if the gym leaders let their pokemon have good movesets, hold an item, and just have smarter AI, but that's just me

Water type challenge allows me to only use water types.

Both of them are right. Its clear the target demographic for the game is kids. But the actual players are mostly adults this whole thing could be easily fixed by adding a difficulty setting but gamefreak is too busy drawing Furries to actually have the critical thinking skills to implement such a thing.

That's a fair point.
If you want a harder challenge, go play a romhack.
I don't mean that to be dismissive, either. There are some pretty challenging romhacks out there (such as Radical Red) that have a little more kick.

There is always that one jerk who just has to ruin things.

Thats why you can’t be a adult in a Pokémon game 😅
