Jesus is coming back soon to set up His earthly kingdom, the requirement though to enter this kingdom is that we must be absolutely perfect and without sin. You might be thinking to yourself, “but I’m a good person or God knows my heart and he wouldn’t turn me away just cause I sinned before” but the Bible says that God is a just and Holy judge and that he must judge us according to His law. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and the first half Romans 6:23 says, “for the wages of sin is death…” in other words WHEN we sin, the reward for that is spiritual death which is eternal separation from the Lord or in other words Hell. Now God being a Holy and righteous judge, He must judge us according to the Law, for example if you went to court for murdering someone and the judge sentences you to death and you say, “well I’m really sorry and I won’t do it again.” I’m sure the judge would look at you and say something along the lines of, “well I’m sure you are but you committed a heinous crime and now you must pay the penalty.” In this same sense we broke God’s Holy law, every single one of us, and in that case we deserve eternal separation from the Lord. This is a very sobering and tragic reality but, Hallelujah!! because thankfully the story doesn’t end here. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16. This is why Jesus is so important. He came in the flesh and lived as a man, but He lived a perfect sinless life so He could qualify as the perfect sacrifice in place of our sin. At the end of His earthly ministry He was handed over to be beaten gruesomely, suffer, and then be crucified on the cross bearing all of our sins or debts that we owe to God, thus paying the price that we owe. He died but then He rose on the 3rd day proving His divinity. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Just like if you’re in court with a stack of speeding fines against you and the judge says, “hey man you got a lot of tickets you’re going to have to go to jail/pay the restitution.” But then someone walks in and pays the fine for you, the judge can then legally dismiss you. In this same way, because Jesus lived a perfect life and then suffered and died on the cross paying the sin debt that we owe, God our heavenly judge can legally dismiss our case against Him. We only need to accept His grace and mercy and truly believe this simple but powerful truth: we are sinners, we broke the law and we deserve death but, Jesus came so that we could be forgiven and our sins were nailed to the cross with Him. That’s called the grace of God, salvation is an unmerited free gift of eternal life through faith (or trust) in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. So if you’ve never heard the gospel (good news) like this or never truly put your faith in Jesus, then I’d like to ask you to humble yourself and realize the truth of the matter which is: we don’t deserve to be with the Lord eternally. I’d ask you to repent of your sins, which means to change your mind or direction about sin and to understand that you are not God and that sin is in direct opposition to the Lord and that one day a righteous judgment is coming possibly sooner than later, and to place your trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross just like you would trust in a parachute and to ask Him into your heart and submit yourself to Him truly to be Lord of your life.
