A nice explaination of the benefits of maintaining a harvesting schedule. On another note - this is the first time I've seen a felling lever used outside of UK / Europe!

Your face cut was all root flare. Should be 1/3 into the base circle. That's why you had so much trouble pushing it over.

I agree with you. One thing I’d add that is probably also contributing to its accelerated grow is that once a tree reaches a certain height it stops focusing most of its energy on growing vertically and starts “putting on weight” so to speak and focuses on thickness. Coupled with more access to sunlight the growth can really explode.

Slower growth actually makes more desirable lumber. I can see wanting faster growth for volume if it’s being used for pulp, but otherwise slow growth would actually be more desirable. That being said it looks like in another 10 years the rot would have outpaced the growth, so good to utilize it now.

It would be nice if you could do a short video on what visual or outward characteristics you look for to determine if a tree should be cut or remain to grow more. Are the all obvious (split, crooked, damaged etc) or are there just as important things which are less obvious.
