remaining this flight made me nervous watching a pilot not familiar with an airplane . lagging behind in every command by the instructor .

my feeling is a few hours of ground school and possibly a simulator would have helped tremendously to ease the nervousness in this flight . thereby increasing safety greatly .
my humble opinion of course but nevertheless .....valid

Love the plane! How'd you like the wind after you got above the tree line? I always get thrown a bit in my Arrow when we fly there.

@FlywithKay are you looking to time build or have someone to split multi engine time with I need 25 more multi engine hours if you want to fly with me.

I love how you don't make a big deal about buying it in the video itself. Congrats on the plane. New sub. :)

Seems odd that you both had hands on the controls when landing so who was flying the plane?

Only question I have is since you said you bought it, when do we get to see another video with you flying it? It's great to see you moving up! Big jump from a Cherokee 180, but a Seneca has Cherokee DNA, so a good next step. I've flown a Cherokee 6 for decades and would love to make the jump to a Seneca, but don't really have the mission to justify it. The Seneca is a Saratoga (retractable gear Cherokee 6) with two engines. It is a comfortable cabin in either configuration, lots of shoulder room.

Looks like a great twin! You will love the Dynon HDX system and Avidyne combination. They are a great match. I heard you ask about the SRC button on the video. The SRC button will select the GPS source that is displayed on the Dynon. It can toggle to display the Dynon VFR GPS or the Avidyne IFR GPS. I generally leave mine on the Avidyne. You can also upload a custom checklist to the Dynon. Looking forward to updates in your videos.

My first flight in the Piper Seneca III (KCCR —> KLAS) was also bumpy… the worse turbulence I experienced in a GA aircraft.

You’re gonna love that plane. So fun to fly. It’ll keep you busy for sure

Pretty cool aircraft. I learned to fly at Bowman Field in 1981 and soloed on that runway. It was Rwy 14 at that time, now Rwy 15. A lot of familiar sights out the windows.

Kay, to answer your dad's question about the wastegates.......not in a Seneca III. On modern turbo charged airplanes (and I think the Seneca V) the wastegates are automatic, they have a pressure controller and that uses oil pressure to operate the wastegate to maintain a desired Manifold Pressure. The Seneca III has fixed wastegates. With nothing automatic, and no way to bleed off (bypass) excess exhaust pressure, at low altitudes, and the throttles open, it WILL overboost. As you figured out, you never takeoff with the throttles full forward, unless maybe at a high elevation airport on a hot day. Another type of system is manual wastegates, they have another control, almost like a 2nd throttle. You can leave the wastegates open, produce no boost, firewall the throttle for T/O. (or be ham fisted with it during training) and the engine is just like it's normally aspirated, but as you climb and start losing power, you manually start closing the wastegate and increasing your manifold pressure, Then that secondary control becomes your "throttle" at higher altitudes.

SEL Pilot and A&P mechanic here love seeing these videos and your progress ! loved working on the senecas back in the day but its nothing like we had, the the avionics that one has ...they did it right. Would love to see some instructional videos showing the new kids how this great modern tool will help things be so much safer. Congrats!!!

Just so everyone knows, this was a test flight, not an instruction flight. It was just a quick way for me to go up, see it fly, and get the feel for how it handles! I have to get 10 hours of instruction in this before I can fly it (for safety and because my insurance requires it). Stay tuned for the actual instruction flights! :)
