Great video.
ОтветитьHow do I replace my 8ft fluorescents?
ОтветитьBut I have fluorescent bulbs in my garage that freeze up in very cold weather, so led makes sense!
ОтветитьGreat video, thanks! Ignore the haters.
ОтветитьYou did a great job explaining the process, thnx i feel more comfortable doing this job
ОтветитьYou are lucky the switch was wired to brake the live
ОтветитьGlad to see you used wire nuts instead of those POS wagos.
ОтветитьThere is no reason to replace fluorescent light. The LED cost ten times or more what a fluorescent tube.
ОтветитьGeat thanks!
ОтветитьYOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! Neutrals can carry current if the (N) is shared on a multiplied circuit sharing power, you could end up electrocuted, especially if the power is not on a two pole breaker. Just turning off the breaker and the switch does not MEAN YOU WON'T get SHOCKED! Those "pliers" are NOT insulated, where are your gloves. Do the general public a favor- STOP ACTING as an electrician and go to school. Man DIY Get a real job!
ОтветитьExcellent Thanks so much ! I think I can do this myself and the daylight bulbs are the healthy ones right ?
ОтветитьThanks I have one light to convert
ОтветитьWill this work for any LED florescent replacement bulbs?
ОтветитьI've been converting some of mine to LED. The wiring diags. in the package a pretty fehken simple.
I've salvaged a couple of 40s era fixtures, got replament ends from AMZN as the bakelite ends were cracked.
Also, just make sure to mark fixtures at to what they require if you are going to mod some over time.
Lamps Glow, Bulbs Grow.
ОтветитьIn the building i work in we've replaced fluorescent with LED. We get all the benefits you'd expect, but a lot of the LED tubes fail, and when they do, they smell bad and even start to melt, which is dangerous. The problem is typical: the tech is legit, but poor mfg quality eliminates the benefit.
ОтветитьPicking a nit - why leave the pigtails on the hot/neutral feeds?
ОтветитьThank you 😀
ОтветитьGreat video with the simplest explanation of how to install using by pass method I've seen! Thanks.
ОтветитьThanks Jonny - I have been sitting on LED bulbs J bought in Jan 2022… have been looking for LED ballasts for a long time. I guess I can’t find them because I don’t need them. Much appreciated.
ОтветитьThe worst lights are LED light bars! If ONE LED goes out the whole tube goes dead. It is an endless waste of time and not worth the money.
ОтветитьI have done this good explanation but you should have specified you need type B LEDs for this to work I love more ballists
ОтветитьI just redid my fluorescent lights to LED. So much nicer plus my LED has a switch on the bulb itself to control the brightness.
ОтветитьI've gone down a similar road. I recently replaced all my 4' T-12 fixtures w/ 4' LED integrated fixtures. 50000 hrs life for those fixtures which at 5hrs/day use translates to 27.4 yrs of life. That's long time without changing bulbs. 😎
ОтветитьPretty straightforward video but I have one complaint. That tester you used to determine whether the fixture was still powered or not should have been tested with a known live electrical circuit before trusting that your ballast was truly unpowered. You can do this by just sticking the little table on the end of the tester in the hot side of a known good receptacle to see if it sounds. Not testing that electrical tester prior to using it is a good way to get yourself seriously hurt if the tester batteries were dead or it was just not working.
Ответитьdont forget the sticker that says LED bulbs installed and ballast bypassed....you would fail an inspection without that
ОтветитьAnd when your house unfortunately burns down due to faulty wiring and not using a licensed electrician, good luck putting in a claim with your insurance company.
ОтветитьI've done elec. work in the past, long before LED lights were put onto the market, so I never realized that you could just bypass the ballast. Your video was straight and simple! Recently I purchased a pair of LED lights, to replace my fluorescent lights, over head. When I put them into the fixture, it didn't work. Then I came across Your video. This morning I did just like your video shows (except removing the Ballast). I put the LED lights into the fixture and ...it doesn't work...! The bulbs Are T8 LED lights and when I turn on the power, they look just as bad as the faulty fluorescent bulbs, that I'm replacing. Why?
ОтветитьGee I just bought the LED bulbs that are compatible with the ballast, stuck them in and they work perfectly, no wiring changed required. Easy peasy.
ОтветитьA little bit behind the times dude..........
ОтветитьDouble-sided gang 🔥
ОтветитьGreat video😊
ОтветитьWhat I don't like about leds is the light is very harsh and directional. You better have a good diffuser to avoid eye strain.
I was recently in a new house that used a bunch of exposed edison style clear led filament bulbs. Might as well wear sunglasses inside that house. Light was horrible.
Ok he is working on a fairly new fixture, that little clip he shows guess what it can be easy to loose. The tombstones, the pieces the lights actually fit into over time become brown and brittle so you need to pay attention to those, plus the bulbs can be a tight fit outside of that the long run it is a better light and you don't need that ballast making it a win win
ОтветитьThanks!!
ОтветитьI have LEDs over my pool table. My fixture is hard to get into. I used the plug 'n' play version 4ft bulbs. I can go back to fluorescent if I want to. At least now, I know how to wire them if the ballast ever goes bad. Thanks for the video. 💡
ОтветитьWhat a difference over those old Fluorescent bulbs! 😎Needed!
ОтветитьGreetings from Tucson, Arizona..
Just subscribed - this is just the ticket for my garage.
But you are in America. It's not the same in the UK. We use starters over here.
Can you do a video on how to change individual-led mainly how to open the tube
I only have one set of florescent bulbs in my house and those are in my laundry room. I do want to swap them out.
ОтветитьI ruined 2 good lights , this does not work people
ОтветитьIf you have fluorescent lights above your bathroom mirror you should change them to LED,
Don’t know if you’ll save any money but It will definitely help your self-esteem.
Seeing lots of negative / poor reviews on these and other brands of T8 LED bulbs. Complaints are poor life span/ not working out of the box / RF interference / shorted ends (this could be from user miswiring) I would like to change out to the LED but I am now reluctant about this now.
ОтветитьI finally decided today was the day to give up my career as a professional procrastinator and tackle the flickering laundry room light. I had been determined to leave fluorescent behind and make the switch to LED. The LED bulbs I had ordered a couple of weeks ago were starting to gather dust in the corner so finally watched a few videos this morning and picked your video as my guide. Your instructions were perfect and I feel like I have a whole new fixture. Thanks for posting such great instructions.
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьIt is not so simple to convert to LED bulbs you first need to determine which type of LED bulb you are installing some types have the live and neutral going to one end and others have the live and neutral on oposite ends of the tube the wiring he did is for L and N on oposite ends in which case he should have clipped out the red (or blue) wires so that you dont have unnecessary power going to the pins in the ends just incase for safety
ОтветитьCan I do the same with 3 light fixtures connected in sequence??
ОтветитьVery informative Video
ОтветитьGreat tip!👍🏻
