tl;dr - These break stupid easily because of poor ear pad design, and because the company is a bunch of greedy scum lords you can't even get third-party earpads to fix the problem.

These are trash. They broke just 2 days outside the 30 day return period. It started making a foily type crinkling sound in the right ear, regardless of whether or not the headset was on. I looked it up and found several other people online with the same complaints, as well as a response from Audeze, the original manufacturer. The issue is the vacuum that the ear muffs create between the headset and your head. The suction from it damages the foil on the drivers. After less than a month of use, I couldn't wear them without the slightest movement of my head recreating the crinkling sound. It's the most obnoxious, distracting thing ever. What's worse, Audeze claims that this is just a normal feature of planar magnetic headphones, which it clearly isn't because they didn't do this for the first several weeks I had them. Not to mention, I can't believe anyone would ever purchase these if this was "normal". The crinkling is so persistent and obnoxious.

Even worse, the problem seems like it would be easily fixable if you could just use a different earpad made of a more breathable material that doesn't create suction, rather than leather. However, this is literally the only headset I've ever seen where you can't easily replace the ear pads with third-party ear pads. The earpads for these are attached to a plastic piece that needs to be clipped onto the headset, so there's no way to buy a different earpad that won't create the same suction that the default ones do, which are literally breaking the headset to begin with. HyperX doesn't even sell the replacements, if you ask them they don't even know where to get replacements. I had to sift through Reddit posts to find that apparently this is just a rebranded version of one of Audezes headsets and you can buy the Audeze replacements for $30, but they are literally the EXACT same leather ones that cause the problem in the first place. There are no options, just the stock replacements. The only reason they could have for doing this is to force you into buying replacements from them rather than third parties.

So basically, their trash earpad design literally breaks their $300+ headset, and because they're greedy assholes, you can't even buy different ear pads to prevent this from happening.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

Because Audeze claims that this is "normal", they won't cover this under warranty. I've put in a warranty claim under HyperX, so hopefully, because it's a different company they cover it but we'll see. But, I had to pay $30 in shipping to send them back for a warranty claim when I barely had them for a month! Technically, I didn't even have them for a month but they go off the order date even though it took a week for them to arrive. Otherwise, I would of qualified for a return and just gotten my money back for this trash. Do not waste your money on these, they're garbage and not worth the headache.

Pros:
Audio+, 3D+ (that head tracking is almost not a gimmick, really good stuff for when not using VR), device compatibility
Cons:
Noticeable noice flor- (white noise common in headsets with complex electronics), Only eq presets with no custom sliders, relatively heavy with strong clamping force and are almost completely closed (not sealed, but in long sessions or hot environments this can become critical, and headphones are not fond of liquids).

Personally I only use the warm preset, particularly the "flat" one is extremely high on the highs for my taste. With the other presets I have to lower overall volume considerably in order for it to not hurt in hour<time sessions, on top of that some just sound weird. The default audeze house sound is good, but it's not exempt from the brightness problem (my taste)

Overall I'd say that these are amazing headphones, unless durability, confort, or microphone are priorities.

Confort: is in my con list

Microphone: it's really meh, and it pics interference from time to time (Discord noice gate mostly negates this, but recordings/other services will be affected, but nothing critical IMO).

Durability: these don't feel cheap, but they do fell somewhat delicate. They are the only hyper x headset without 2 year warranty and probably for a reason (with care and pad swap they could probably last longer, but still)

Edit: I just realized I don't have the same model. I have the S variant, it is the same but with 2 extra 3D modes that use head tracking to compensate for head movements and custom "button" inputs

Great review. Can I just use the usb c to a cable as the main connection and get the full audio experience. And if so, does the usb c to a cable use the battery? like can I game for 20 plus hours without charging

If you hold down the volume wheel for 2 seconds then unplug the USB type a cable does it damage the headset cause I have done it before?

How do you turn on the charging while using the USB type a. Every time I hold the volume wheel it says charging off but it was already off

planars have actually abit worse imaging than a dynamic driver. Might not be ideal for competetive games.

Do you think this headset is good for a console player? Where you have to use 3.5mm and are forced to 2.1 sound with 3D or 3D off and use Windows Sonic/Dolby Atmos? I wanna get a good comfortable headset for my Series X but I've had 2 sets with connectivity issues so I need wired

Hi! All right? Friend, I need your help, a few months ago I bought my S orbit and everything was wonderful, except that when I turned it on I already noticed a persistent noise, however quietly, while no sound was playing. I tried for other cables, change the sound profiles, turn off and on the 3D mode etc, but nothing fixed, it appears even when there is no cable connected, just connect, I changed for another unit and also had the same problem , this one ended up damaging the magnetic planar so they changed it to another one and it's still there. It's not a problem with my ears because I have 3 other headphones here that don't have that noise. Can you help me? What can I do to resolve it? Do you have these noises?

I have 6 year old cloud that I've recently changed to a Sony WH100XM3 and ModMic Wireless and will now switch the Sony WH1000 to this Orbit S much thanks to this and a few other reviews. It's funny you should mention the HyperX mic "problems". My friend also has HyperX and we both have the same problem, even with mic sound set way up (close to distortion) we often have to tell each other to almost put it in the mouth in order for the others to hear. The sound of the HyperX mics are fine but I'm very glad I'm gonna combine it with my ModMic instead, it's simply superb and can easily be used far away from the mouth.

You also mention the cable tangling which is also a well known old issue with other HyperX sets, not a big deal really but can be a bit annoying and I'm very glad to see I can now disconnect the cable from the headset rather than the computer.

Enjoyed your video. I just got these and I do get exhausted after about 1hr of use on PS4. I hope my neck adjusts and will try to stretch them out a little because the clamp feels too tight. LOVE how they sound though.

Does the 3D audio give you better positional audio of things like footsteps? Or would it not matter? And is high res or 7.1 surround sound better to use with or without 3D audio in your opinion?
