In sector one, could you have kept your specialist instead, meaning even though you have 0 men on your resource card, you still have a specialist soldier — does he count? If so the you could have sacrificed him next round to stay on in that sector...

Normally you don't have to spend courage when you move lateral. ( rules from the first edition, did this change in the second edition ? ).
