Thanks for the tips
ОтветитьThanks for this video. We have a new pup that is eager to learn, but has a couple of behavior issues. Appreciate your up front approach. This was a great video for us to watch and affirm that an e collar is right for her.
ОтветитьI like the halter type you have on. What is the name of the shock training collar and halter you have or did you read it up yourself? Help me out here I’d like it through that way better instead of around the neck or do you recommend the neck collar?
ОтветитьI can't get the vib working on mine
ОтветитьI love your logic and the value of positive reinforcement that you talk about, it’s so important to remember. However I have been “trained” to train only on a one statement command and I heard you repeat the command twice with come and sit. Thoughts?
ОтветитьThank you for this amazing video. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructional video on the proper use of shock collars. I subscribed and hope you continue posting good tips on dog training.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing !
ОтветитьThere is a basic misunderstanding here about what a marker is and how it works in the science of behavior modification.
The tone is NOT a reward or “reinforcer”--neither is a click from a clicker, or praise for that matter. Markers (beeps, clicks, “yes!”) work in operant conditioning only if and when the animal quickly learns that it precisely marks/indicates a behavior that causes a *real*, valued reward to be delivered.
Markers have no value as reinforcement to the animal, except when it is trained as a secondary reinforcer by always following the marker immediately with a primary reinforcer--usually food, but could be a ball throw etc., something tangible that the animal truly likes and is willing to work for.
Clicking or beeping the dog “as they are eating food” makes no sense--what behavior are you marking that you want to happen again? Eating? No. Timing is important: you precisely mark the dog for a behavior (looking at you, sitting, etc.) and THEN immediately provide the food. The food is a primary reinforcer, the click/beep is a secondary or “conditioned” reinforcer that must ALWAYS be followed by food (or a ball throw) to maintain it’s meaning and value.
Sure, you could train the dog that “beep” means click, but then it should ALWAYS and ONLY mean “you just won a reward, come and get it!” But if you use that beep to mean both “you win!” AND “listen up and do what I say or you’ll get a shock” then you will really, really mess up your dog. Who wants to work for a marker that might be followed with food OR a shock!?
Also, calling a shock ‘static’ is misleading--every e-collar is capable of delivering a very painful and anxiety-producing shock, and even a “tickle” causes anxiety if the dog knows that worse could follow, and they weren’t fully trained to understand how to avoid the painful shock, or the animal is too aroused to comply.
Just purchased the bousnic 2 dog e collars. I have a problem where my dogs like to go outside our property and also eating things on the ground including cat poop. I am a 1st time buyer and wanted you to know that this training video was very informative. I now have a sort of idea of how to approach this training. Thank you for being real!
ОтветитьI would of never imaged me to possibly use this. But I lived on 10 acres that now butts up to an incredible 60mph road. Lost my bestfriend "ginny' to the road. Now broke me. So now we have probably the world's Is happiest Is black cur in the universe. Lol
Miss luna .... short for lunatic. And I now think if this saves her life than better for me to love her. So thank you for this video I don't feel so horrible. It's to keep her safe! You rock !!🎉
Love tip 3
ОтветитьI think the shock collar ought to be used on you and anyone else that relies on them to train. I read a simple little book by Delmar Smith, How to Train Your Gun Dog, about 45 years ago. I had Brittany Spaniels. His approach declined the use of such methods as you hot shots of today. He relied on being smarter than the dog. You guys just substitute technology for smarts.
ОтветитьIt’s like Tens device.
ОтветитьTone = Yes
Vibrate = No
Shock = Hell, no! Are you crazy!?!!
Thanks for the lesson. You Sir ! Kept me from making a serious mistake.
ОтветитьHa! Sounds like you need a shock collar for the kids!
ОтветитьThanks for the video. I'm just starting e-collar training. My focus is recall when out of range. Going to concentrate on on the tone training. In what area did you create this video. Very scenic.
ОтветитьAside from this video being so very helpful I just comment on the BEAUTIFUL mountains in the background!
ОтветитьThank you very much Sir!
ОтветитьGreat video. Very helpful. Im thinking getting an ecollar. It would be my first ecollar. What options would you sugguest ?? Ive trained dogs for 12 years but i ve never used anything like it
ОтветитьThank you for tips
ОтветитьIt’s not “electric collar” it’s called Elizabethan collar . Greatest COMMUNICATION tool .
ОтветитьGood sound advice. I am not an expert, but you seem to approach this well with the well-being of the dog as a priority. I am looking to use an e-collar for the first time because though my boy, Shadow, is normally very sweet, mellow and gentle, he is reactive to intact male dogs (Shadow is not intact). He also has issues with recall, if there are other distractions.
Are you in Utah? Those mountains look awfully familiar (if you are, I am in north Davis County).
I ordered an e-collar for my dog. I came here to learn to use it properly and very happy with this approach. Thank you
ОтветитьI couldn't believe how people were using these collars, constantly zapping the dog until they did whatever!?? I was appalled at that way of using any collar! the best way is to let your dog know what he's doing wrong not constant zapping then release!! Whose idea was that originally Gomez Addams? Someone who likes torture? 🤔🤨 I had a cheap collar bought at pet smart which had the good boy/girl tone which I liked then got one more expensive that didn't have it so I just say good boy and treat but I do miss the tone for good behavior!
ОтветитьNumber 3 is amazing!! I have never heard of them being used for that and now that you have explained it, this makes such good sense!! We have just got our first e-collar “dog tra, 200c, intuitive compact trainer”
But I have been to scared to try it as I didn’t want to do it wrong . Thank you for this informational video and great advice. I’m going to start using our E-collar and try all these things
hey question, my dog sits well if she is close to me, but if she is further away and I give the sit command she runs to me, and then sits. How do I teach her that sit = instant no matter where I am? She's almost 3 and I'm just now introducing an e-collar.
ОтветитьGreat tips!
ОтветитьYou're right about #3! Great advice
ОтветитьI would no more use a shock collar on a dog than I would hobble a horse.
I've been training horses and dogs my entire life.
If you have to resort to "pain compliance" methods, you aren't properly suited for the task.
Do the poor creature a favor and hire someone who actually knows how to train.
I cannot thank you enough for making this video! I spent a half hour yesterday trying to get my dog to come back to me so we could head home. Never again! Just started researching E-collars. I have a Sportdog bark collar, and it is fantastic, so I will be buying their E-collar now. And using the tone for reward is an excellent idea!
ОтветитьThank you for the great video and being honest about your mistake. Much appreciated.
Ответитьi think of my 3 buttons as - yes, no, and oh hell no. but ftr, #3 is my cardinal rule.
ОтветитьThank you for making awesome video like this years later and it still helping me
ОтветитьI have not seen anyone go through explaining the function buttons work .
ОтветитьOK. Nicely produced video and a beautiful dog!!!!
Now. I have watched a number of videos that show the contact points are on the side of the neck, and one that has the contact probes riding the dogs esophagus.
You failed to explain thru the whole video you produced so thoughtfully WHERE on the dogs neck the contact points should be.
Thoughts?
I have had several Sport Dog collars for my labs, but they have never functioned well for me. I have called customer service several times and they were very helpful as you said, maybe it is just me that needs training. Thank you for all the information.
.
this was a very helpful video! thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with the e collar!
ОтветитьVery clear and well done video, thank you!!
ОтветитьOnce your dog has been trained on an invisible fence (beeping=bad) can you retrain them (beeping=good)?
ОтветитьThanks so much. I bought one to curb the incessant jumping on anyone who comes, especially family. She just doesn’t stop. She is young and training well but this is an issue for an elderly family member who comes. Going to use the tone setting for her rewards. I am trying to teach her good manners, and she does well except for the jumping and mouthing. Going to work slowly on this with me, since she jumps on e when she is excited about going on a walk. She is a loving rambunctious female lab.
ОтветитьDont use shock colars at all
ОтветитьI have an 11 month old pitbull. Can you recommend 1 to train her?
ОтветитьThank you this is the best advice I’ve heard and very understandable
ОтветитьHow dare you use a shock collar just patience and kindness works just as well shame on you
ОтветитьTip number one- stop calling them a shock collar. It’s creates a negative perception with the uninformed. Call them e - sim or stim collars. I know it sounds petty but using words that we associate with pain or violence are just sending the wrong message. Some states are trying to ban the sales and use, like NY. It’s ridiculous!! It’s a great tool when used responsibly.
ОтветитьGreat video bro
Ответить3 ..you are a genius) this significantly expands the use of the collar and allows the dog to react positively to it. Do you think vibration can replace sound? my collar unfortunately does not support vibration
Ответить
