I loved this scene because for a moment it felt like Anakin was almost back, and in that brief moment he gave Obi Wan a form of closure.
It got blended with Vaders hate and evil but the message was clear- Obi Wan didn’t need to carry guilt over Anakin. It was bizarrely an act of kindness. If you wanted to destroy Obi Wan destroy him emotionally too, like destroying Alderaan in front of Leia. He doesn’t do this because some small part of him still cared
The best part about this scene in my opinion is the lighting around both of their faces.
After Obi Wan apologizes the lighting around Vader flickers a faint blue showing that Anakin broke through for a moment.
But after he says he killed Anakin, a brighter red consumes his face which shows Vader took control once more.
And right after he says that, the blue light around Kenobi fades away showing how any hope he had of saving Anakin was gone.
This show had flaws but this was not one of them
It was bound to happen. We’ve all seen 4-6 and seen Vader. We’ve all scene 1-3 and seen anakins turning to the dark side, but this scene here, even after when anakin really turned, when he fought obi wan and lost, this scene here, is what showed when he was truly lost to the dark side.
It’s almost as if because obi wan sliced through his mask that he could finally have a chance to talk him back to the light, because he saw anakins face. But it was too late. But then we see the face of what he’s become. What happened to poor anakin? It’s like something else took over, ‘you didn’t kill anakin skywalker, …I did’
Truly remarkable
"You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. James Earl Jones did."
ОтветитьHayden Christiansen’s immaturity has always made him perfect for this role. The way he finishes the name “skywalker” sounds so childish to me almost as if it were an attempt to boast about what he’s done to no longer appease his former master but to impress him. He’s deeply tormented and putting on a show as if he’s proud of himself. But we all know that isn’t true. The cinematic mastery in this scene is beautiful to me and I like to think that the faint reflection of obi Wans lightsaber represents the glimmer of Anakin that is still there. To anyone that thinks that he’s at the height of his deviant nature at this point and there is no reaching Anakin, I think perhaps that makes a boring story. We all want him to be the amazing Anakin we know and love and reach his full potential as maybe not exactly a Jedi but the tragedy of Darth Vader is that he was always Anakin, the entire time. Just because he’s bipolar doesn’t excuse him of his actions. The man who trained Ashoka and faught beside Obi Wan in the clone wars and the boy who built c-3PO and won a pod race against Sebulba is the same man that’s under that mask. That’s what makes Darth Vader so disgusting to me. And beautiful at the same time. It’s art
ОтветитьAnakin, we forgive you bud. Women drive me to the dark side as well, I get it. He redeemed himself by killing that evil bastard who caused all of that. That’s why he appeared alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan, as his true self, a man, a Jedi. We forgive you little Ani.
Ответить"Then my friend is truly dead" just grabs you by the heart strings
Lucas is a creative genius. But his dialogue is terrible and hes not a great director. This scene shows if the prequels werent so light and completely flooded with CG, Hayden could have been better. This was one of the few Disney led things that was perfect. This scene had more heart and emotion than the last 3 movies. Both actors just nailed this.
ОтветитьOnly thing I wish they did differently was make Vader get back up and fight Obi Wan again. Though this time Vader comes out on top despite Obi Wan's newfound strength. This way they show that Obi Wan really did need Luke to defeat Vader since he wasn't strong enough to do it himself.
ОтветитьThat last OBI WAN was terrifying
ОтветитьFor every miss that Disney has had, they have a win.
Ответитьobi wan kenobi is a big pvssy!! bstard doesnt even have the balls to kill him! how he die anyway?? that kenobi guy!!
ОтветитьConsidering the reason his voice changed do to the lungs & vocal cords being burned it doesn't make sence that he sounds like Anakin at times...cool effect but makes no sence just saying
ОтветитьI don't know why but I keep coming back to watch this scene every now and then. The audio transitions with the voice and mask are so well done. Also the transition between blue and red. And Its crazy to see them together again on screen, gives a massive nostalgia bomb!
Ответить“He betrayed and murdered your father”
ОтветитьI feel like this was that last shred of good in Anankin coming up and forgiving Obi-wan, telling him that he didn't have to keep torturing himself and that it wasn't his fault.
ОтветитьVader looks like a broken man
ОтветитьThe look on his face when he says ‘…I did,’ I instantly thought of Hannibal Lecter’s face on the Red Dragon movie cover. Just chilling. And I can’t tell if he’s smirking or not.. man was this incredible.
ОтветитьAll he needed to tell him was Padme's exact last words, which was said to Obi Wan: "There's good in him. I know... I know there's still...(dies)"
ОтветитьIf only anakin knew he’d be the new god of the world between worlds as Anakin Skywalker… Give it up for the Chosen one
ОтветитьDisney star wars has been more miss than hit, but dam that's a good scene
ОтветитьI used to think Hayden was a bad actor in Star Wars movies. I now know his cringy dialogue was just bad writing.
ОтветитьLuke and kylo should of had a scene like this
ОтветитьOBI WAAAAAAAAAAAN
Ответитьfor those who say anakin and vader are the same person:
ОтветитьIt sounds much better in German.
ОтветитьHayden Christensen has finally become Darth Vader.
ОтветитьThe best part of the show and S TIER STAR WARS!
ОтветитьA Young Jedi named Darth Vader..Who was a pupil of mine before he turned to Evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights...
He betrayed and murdered your father..Now the Jedi are all but extinct.
Maybe its just me but in certain parts he sounds like Sebastian Shaw, the original unmasked Anakin.
ОтветитьJust realize Anakin’s face reaction and silence after Obi-wan’s apologized. Looks like visibly internal pain, anger, and trying to accept his decision for he as already gone this far.
ОтветитьThis one scene makes up for years of failure.
ОтветитьI don't understand how people think the Obi Wan series is good. The direction of the series is horrible, the Obi Wan vs Vader scene in episode 3 is ridiculous, Obi Wan hides in an empty plain and Vader simply disappears and appears elsewhere. Reva has childish motivations and survived 2 saber blows to the stomach (one when she was a child in a temple full of soldiers!). Leia's pursuit is poorly done. Leia can resist an INQUISITOR. Obi Wan leaves the imperial fortress with Leia under his coat and NOBODY sees the 4 legs. The Grand Inquisitor has bad makeup (the 5th brother too) and "dies" in a place with NO ONE to rescue him, but he survives and then appears again. The flashback with Anakin has no function, it's just a "normal" training...Luke runs into a DESERT but out of nowhere some rocks appear for him to hide from Reva who was walking with a hole in her stomach (how she arrived in TATOOINE?)
ОтветитьOne change I would have liked to see in this scene is when Vader says, “I did”, it should have been in the Vader voice.
ОтветитьIf only he said “‘Then my brother is truly dead”. That would have been a truly heartbreaking sentiment.
ОтветитьIt's a interesting difference between this scene and Vader with luke. Because here he's almost trying to help Obi-wan and give him closure. Yet with luke he was trying to confuse him and get him to join him. IMO it really shows how Vader felt empathy and love with Obi-wan. Which is why he had to kill him to fully kill that side of him.
ОтветитьThat slight single tear on anakins cheek after obi wan says hes sorry breaks my heart. And its a nice call back that shows anakin never really was gone
ОтветитьThis scene is masterfully done.
ОтветитьI could not stop tearing up when I saw this scene.
ОтветитьIt's sad Anakin fate... but he had to fall so we could have balance in the force.
ОтветитьThis could also be seen as a retcon of sorts to negate the "certain point of view" runaround that Obi-Wan gave Luke in RotJ (which was brought about because, when Lucas wrote SW:ANH, Luke's father and Vader were intended to be two different people; the "Vader twist" only came about during the writing of ESB).
We now have it from Vader's own lips/voice modulator that Darth Vader did kill Luke's father.
The one Star Wars series I don't regret not watching
ОтветитьThe Love ❤️ Obi Wan Has for Anakin Skywalker is Unconditional!!!
ОтветитьDARTH VADER Possessed ANAKIN SKYWALKER
ОтветитьAnyone who says Obi-Wan was a shit series needs a reality check. Even at its worst, this was better than Andor and Boba Fett at their best
ОтветитьA single tear, worth a thousand words.
ОтветитьNoone realizes this is ment to deconstruct obiwans characters but everyone blindly roots for this garbage ass writing
ОтветитьOne thing about this scene. It shows Obi-Wan knew about his mother, about Padme and about Palpatine but just failed to do anything about it. He genuinely feels guilty about it and he's reminded of it all the time.
