Herkemers are not rare

My grandpa, who’s 72 now, loved gemstone hunting and collecting his entire life. While he was in the military, he got to travel all over the world. He’s collected quite a bit of gems over the years making his collection worth probably more than everything he’s ever owned combined. He found most of his collection on his own and had them looked at by a professional but some he’s bought from all sorts of places. Out of the ones on this list, he has 1-3 specimens each of Musgravite, Benitoite, Grandiderite, Pourdretteite and Tanzanite. He’s also got several different diamonds and rubies and all sorts of others. If only I could post a pic of his collection here. He’s even had some of his gems turned into jewelry for my grandma and their kids. My mom and my aunts each have a necklace with their birthstone that my grandpa found himself. My uncle on the other hand has a “class ring” style ring with his birthstone. I’ve asked him why he doesn’t just sell the really expensive ones but he never tells me why. All he say is “There’s more to life than chasing wealth. You’ll understand when you’re older what true wealth is.”. True wealth are the memories that you made along the journey of finding those gemstones and by selling them you lose your wealth since there’s nothing there to remind you of the memories anymore.
