I drove around south Memphis the other day , maybe cuz I came from an area that had similar but not as bad issues, but it didn’t feel to out of place, u just gotta move and stick to urself, if u look like a person that’ll get robbed, u gna get robbed, but u also can’t be mean mugging to try to act tough, u just gotta have lived it to understand how getting thru it is possible

I left Memphis in May of 1998 I had a full time job but it was really bad,,, every night you would hear constant gun fire from 11pm to about 3 am it was really crazy I hope the city will turn around but I really doubt it will

Our family was in Memphis recently. I’ve traveled the world my whole life, and I can honestly say, I had one of the best times of my life! No crime, great food, great entertainment! If you look for the worst in anything, you will find it! We look forward to returning.

I grew up in Memphis in the Raleigh area. Back in the 70's and 80's Memphis was a great place to live. I had a wonderful childhood with many friends black, white, latino and more. Memphis is now the "armpit of America." Memphis has great history and culture, but the corrupt leadership have destroyed this city along with affirmative action and DEI which have drove out many businesses and good paying jobs...

And yes I got out of basic training from the US ARMY Reserves in 1992, and tried to get a job at Fed EX moving boxes and I was declined because I am white and affirmative action.

Fun question, what is the going theme about all of the residents in all of these dangerous cities?

Moved to Memphis with my ex in 1985 from the east coast, the first thought was OMG , it’s so dirty and nasty! It’s only gotten worse. I moved out in 1999. I finally found a job out of Memphis and I will not go back unless absolutely necessary!!! It’s really sad because most of the people are awesome!!! It’s the justice system and corruption in the government. A democratic run sanctuary city!!!

The former police officer made good choices in life. A lot of it has to do with choices not color. I think the politicians in Memphis are in cahoots with criminals. To not have the best retirement for police officers is a reflection of that. She is right. If the people living in those neighborhoods would join together, but it takes courage and leadership. I have relatives who have lived in Memphis for 60+ years. We enjoyed visiting and they lived in a safe neighborhood. The neighbors knew each other and we were never afraid. Just a normal neighborhood not one with giant houses. People kept their property up. This guy is just a lonely liberal.
