It's still insulting that Nintendo didn't at least have a lit screen on the GBC, it took them till the GBA SP to release a Gameboy with a lit screen worldwide.
I thought my issues with Nintendo started way later than the GBA/N64 era, but this is exactly the stuff i hate about this awful company.

At the time GBC was always treated as a successor to Gameboy. It seems like it's only gotten labelled a GB upgrade in retrospect and I have no idea why.

When i was a kid, my dad would steal my gameboy to play tetris on the toilet, where it would remain on the counter until the wool blanket-like mass of hot stank air would fade.

I remember these. I had a kiwi green Game Boy Color and I loved it! I would play Pokémon Crystal for hours on it in the 2000’s and hardly got tired of it.

Does anyone know about Wii Street U? I just learned about the existence of it today in the notifications part of the Wii U.

Nobody had a Game Gear, they were an inefficient bulky mess that took like 6 batteries and died in an afternoon. Some people had a Gameboy Pocket but for most a smaller form factor was not a good reason to upgrade and it took AAA batteries which weren't always common and cost efficient for the Gameboy (hence going back to AA), most parents didn't like the idea of having to buy different batteries. A huge factor in the upgrade is the fact it took 2 AA batteries instead of 4 and the form factor was improved. It just meant in a pinch you could nick the batteries from a remote or walkman and you were good for a bit longer. Also the Gameboy was not begging to be put on life support. You dramatically underscored how popular Pokemon was for Gameboy. The entire reason GBC exists is because of Pokemon frankly. 3 years was still plenty of time for a console to last. The advance lasted two seconds and it's library was terrible in comparison because most kids were moving on to more complex 3d teen rated games, plus the original screen unbacklit was pretty fucking bad (almost worse than the gbc from what i remember). The DS came rolling in pretty quickly and Nintendo took aim at the MUCH younger audience with that stuff. GBC had actual bangers because Sony was kicking down the doors for developers to get shit out there, so Nintendo was basically like fuck it we need to compete now. Kids want Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, but we're also going to do amazing shit like Warioland sequels.

The two batteries and the color was definitely worth the upgrade. They should have put a light on it. I remember I bought the purple one and opened it and got the see through grape color. It broke my brain but I loved it. Atleast those games were only 29.99 back then.

I have soooo many memories with super Mario deluxe yk the times where you down know where things came from but yet you have it, kinda what happened to me but I remember playing the heck outta that game

The game boy color is like a 1st evolution in Pokemon that's super weird and forgotten.

I had the AR adapter but it would sometimes just fall out while I was playing snd shut the system off. I still used mainly batteries but it was nice to have.

I love my GameBoy Colour! In fact, I like it more than the Advance SP due to its super compact design and the fact the cartridges don’t stick out like a sore thumb.
