Can't wait for Avengers Secret Wars in 2026. It's gonna be bloody epic, with all MCU characters, even the dead ones brought back to life, gathering up in Battle World to run the Beyonder's experiments of good vs evil.

The films at the start were in my mind far stronger than in the final league table. I loved the way Titanic shot in at number one in the blink of any eye. Obviously went down well!!

did anyone notice that the 3 parts of The Lord of the Rings together (which is really 1 movie) would be well in front at the top of the list ($4.2 billion)?

Star Wars not leaving the top 3 until 1994 is awesone, but Spielberg and Cameron are the real money makers here

While the raw dollar numbers are interesting it would be nice to see something comparing the number of admissions paid. Give some adjustment for inflation. I realize that the bookkeeping would be very difficult so I don't really expect to see that but it would give a better feeling for how popular the movies were.

@G6JPG
@G6JPG - 31.10.2023 14:42

Since you're using "movie-ticket admission reports" as your source data, presumably you're not including merchandising and other revenue (TV fees etc.). As such, it'd be interesting to see just the actual BOS figures - you also then wouldn't have to keep adjusting for inflation.
(I was surprised Sound Of Music wasn't in there, at least at the start.)
