When I was growing up in Astoria 60/70's they only made a Sicilian type square that was excellent. Rizzos on Steinway st. made a very original square that was over the top. They now offer a traditional slice. But the one to get is the square from both of them. Go back and order the square and eat it cold. Further down on Ditmars blvd. and 43rd street is another bakery that made a square pizza. Not sure if they make it anymore or it's even there.

Pretty cool fact about labatte blue. It got its name "blue" from the CFL's winnipeg blue bomber fans. They changed the name from labatte pilsner to labatte blue after the team. The loudest house in the CFL..

I thought I knew a lot about pizza; then I watch Dave's videos, and I'm more confused than ever. I pretty much thought there was "thin crust", sicilian, chicago deep dish, and ok maybe detroit style. Now I hear "neopolitan"...." football pizza"....." grandma's"......"boardwalk slice"...." bar pie"......and now "bakery slice". I'm probably missing a few. I'm so confused.

Live down the street. Going to R & J's for pizza for decades. Converted every friend who visits. However, the 'popular' pizza is the square pie. Something amazing about the sauce and cheese. No one likes the triangle. For some reason they added it decades later and make it different than the square and with different ingredients. The kid at Rosario's should have been more specific. Still glad you reviewed both. Rosario's for round and R & J's for square (or grandma or Sicilian...whatever).

You go here for the Sicilian slice but my mom said it's not as good now

First of all, you got the wrong slice. They are know for their sicilian slice and it can't be beat!!!!! The sicilian slice is an Astoria staple -3 generations old. It is not there for your approval or disapproval... it just is. You either like it or you don't. Rosario's is not a pizza place, it is an Italian deli that is very good that also serves slices but it is not and never has been known for pizza. Educate yourself about the neighborhood you are in and its history. Astoria does have some great Pizza places as does any neighborhood. It's just pizza.
