Very interesting video. Thank you
ОтветитьThe Galaxy Quest tape is what drew my attention. Any other Galaxy Quest fans here?
ОтветитьI just got 2 D-VHS tapes in the mail from Japan. So now that I have them.... and my Funai VCR/ DVD combination player/recorder connected to my PC....what should I record in (theoretically) HD 1080i??
ОтветитьI think you can get HD CRT TV's to get that full High Defenition Retro asthetic.
ОтветитьI still use my DVD's to this day. I'll never get rid of them.
ОтветитьThey should've kept hd-vhs around, because if a DVD,or hd DVD goes bad, no more hd -dvd!!!!!!
ОтветитьFull hd vhs is shit And it's trash
Full hd bluray discs Are so much better quality better designed better sound in garbage 1080p vhs
HD....Hardly Decent.
ОтветитьI remember my Betamax back in the 82.
ОтветитьThe video techmoan linked in the description for the full 1993 footage has over 7m views, wow
ОтветитьI remember seeing D-Theather tapes in the local Videoland videotheek in 1998, wondering how this would be played. Later in that year I saw a D-Theater VHS recorder in a shop and thinking, that’s pricy.
ОтветитьI wonder what would happen if you played one of these tapes in a standard VCR?
ОтветитьHey @techmoan, I have a W-VHS deck that I’m willing to loan to you if you want to make a video about this format. Here’s hoping I’m able to acquire a W-VHS blank tape as well.
Let me know if you are interested.
I still got one that work but if I leave it will stop work. Sad thing is i wish I lived in the 80
ОтветитьPhillips,Mark,Sharp,Sanyo and Fisher was perhaps the worst Vhs-players and Tv sets ?
The best were Jvc,samsung and Hitatchi?
It's still nice to have a recorder for recording broadcasts onto physical media.
ОтветитьI dont think copy rights are legal.
ОтветитьBased on watching this, I purchased a D-VHS deck. Partly to have a good VCR to help digitize my childhood home videos, and to actually see HD on VHS. So cool! Just if there was a straight forward way to convert component to HDMI. So many darkened and crushed blacks with the $20 Amazon converters. I found the OSSC is good, so long as you increase the brightness from 128 to 140. Also shocked the chapter selection works! No clue how, but it works!
ОтветитьThe tapes should have been a different color or different shape to distinguish itself
ОтветитьVD Theatre... wonder why that didn't take off 😂
ОтветитьI have a $3300 Panasonic decoder to sell, if anyone want it. I thought I had the VCR but at the moment, I can't find it.
ОтветитьDamn Sky Q is old
ОтветитьHD on vhs look amazing but the image sure does light blink a lot, like the light of the image is constantly shimmering on the crt and it is not the crt that is the cause
Ответить$1200 USD for a D-VHS player in 1993? I can tell you why it died. $1200 dollars.
ОтветитьHello, can i use it to export my old family VHS via iLink to my computer ?
Ответитьthose years between end of D-VHS and DVD, man, those were some of the best years of humanity.
ОтветитьBefore watching this video i would never thought that hd content also came with VHS. The image of vhs in my mind is noisy video with lots of distortion
ОтветитьI thought VHS tapes were meant for SD, not HD.

ОтветитьIt's been 8 years, and I've only just gone 4K, now that 4K TVs are dirt cheap, and games consoles come with UHD Blu-Ray player. How times change.
ОтветитьImagine if this format lived long enough to see a 4k varient.
ОтветитьAble to transfer data.
Ответить😊
ОтветитьThe world would’ve been a better place had D-VHS been a success
ОтветитьImagine being an early adopter of HD and the only way you can watch movies is by using a fucking VHS and a fancy VCR
ОтветитьWith modern encodes you could probably blow away Blu-ray with these bad boys
ОтветитьWould like to see 4k UHD VHS.
ОтветитьHow could I miss that?
ОтветитьK-PAX () with Kevin Spacey still does not have a blue ray release. The best format available is still DTheatre...
ОтветитьSurprised so many people say they havent heard of it. it was advertised on VHS's way back when
ОтветитьI remember when Best Buy was selling these. might have been 2003
I can't remember what was playing on the TV set they had but I do remember the silver cases for the movies.
I'm watching this video of yours—my first ever—despite it being 8 years old. I have to admit, your channel is proof (if ever proof were needed) that quality, educational entertainment can be found and enjoyed from independent creators like yourself. Great stuff!
ОтветитьIf I was to write a sci-fi story with retro futuristic technology, I'd like to use S-VHS. The in-universe explanation I can come up with was that there was a popular movement for preserving physical media by boycotting streaming services and digital only media and using physical media instead in any way possible with VHS being a popular format and it became so successful that a company brought back S-VHS and the rest was history.
