Thank you this was very helpful
ОтветитьFYI, buying a whole Pineapple is super cheap. At Aldi's for example, a whole pineapple is $1.89. Also if something is freeze dried, I would think you could grind it into a powder and take up a teenie tiny amount of space that way. Powdered things are great for cooking, not great to eat. So if you want it to be used as an ingredient, just grind it into a powder. Pretty simple. As herbs, it is great, Powdered onion, ginger, garlic etc. I made my own pumpkin pie spice but I dehydrated it. It took forever to get it completely dried. But once it was, I was able to grind it into a powder and it makes a fantastic flavor to add to coffee. I used actual pie I made for Thanksgiving. I always find it odd that the pumpkin pie spice for sale in stores has ZERO pumpkin in it. lol
ОтветитьGood vid. It's really a case between freezing vs dehydrating, canning, and freeze drying. For meat, like lamb, will go rancid in a freezer after several months, so freeze drying is good for this. And, no worries about the freezer goimg out. Another thing is that if you have a freeze dryer you are going to use it because you oaid so much for jt.
ОтветитьGirlfriend-I am so happy to see this video. I’ve been talking with my partner about investing in a freeze dryer based on so many people acting like it’s the only quality way to preserve food.
But, in my mind I truly haven’t felt good about over $5,000 being put into a machine when we have so many other expenses right now-not to mention the process is rather time consuming to me. I do understand in about 50 or so purchases of bulk freeze dried products, I will have paid for a machine. But, some choices aren’t all about the money-it’s about the labor. I’m a very busy chef and business owner, and I cook every single day for work and for my family. I just don’t have the desire to put any additional work into anything but some basic water bath canning, pressure canning, and buying freeze dried food. I don’t feel so bad about my choices to buy already freeze dried or dehydrating anymore!❤
Hello Dear Teacher of mine! I ordered y the kefir from your site. Coming this week. Question lol when it comes how/where do I store it till I can start to use it? How does it reproduce as I go along? Thanks. I have been ordering from your site so you get the credit. You are a wonderful teacher btw
ОтветитьWhere did you find that vacuum chamber? It is much smaller than the ones I am finding. It also doesn't require electricity to use it.
ОтветитьI dehydrate ginger and garlic and it's really good especially the ginger.
ОтветитьGod didn't make anything difficult it's just that people are difficult beigns to please because of their fallen state actually we humans think we are smarter than the God who created us and things that sustain life.
ОтветитьFreeze dryers cost way too much - would rather buy a few more dehydrators and canning jars!
ОтветитьToo much Jubber Jubber. What do freez driers cost?
ОтветитьThank you for this helpful information. I have been weighing the decision to purchase a freeze dryer. I did just watch a video where a family uses both a dehydrator & freeze dryer. They performed a test with a meter to measure the power usage of each. The cost of power was approximately $1.07 dehydrator vs. $1.23 freeze dryer per batch. They used unfrozen foods in both. My idea would be…if you are prepping wanting some peace of mind for food security for a certain amount of time buy the food. If you are homesteading and plan on it being a way of life buy the freeze dryer. They’re expensive so perhaps go in with 1-2 relatives or small group to share the cost.
ОтветитьThankyou for this, I'm pretty sure I will never want a freeze dryer now. You've saved me a lot of money and time.
ОтветитьI can't afford a freeze dryer and wish I could... But I have a dehydrator and can't wait to use it... Especially for ground meats !!!
ОтветитьWell if THOSE people want to BUY me a Freeze Dryer, I'll happily take it !!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьI’ve been looking into the freeze dryer but I can’t get past the the price and the upkeep.
ОтветитьA pretty convincing summary. -thanks for posting.
Ответить“Lose Vit A the quickest”. Just a warning that Vitamin A is one of the few vitamins that is fat, instead of water, soluble. So unlike most vitamins that if you take excessive doses, your body just pees out, Vitamin A will accumulate if taken as supplements in very high doses, and does real harm….have seen people with liver failure from too MUCH vitamin A.
Many people don’t know you can actually overdose on vitamins (things taken at 10,000 times the dose in nature are not “natural”), and just a side-note to not take them in huge doses in supplements thinking “more is better”….it isn’t with vitamins, and a tiny bit is all you need.
thank you for this video. Awesome Lady! i didnt know dehydrating and putting in mylar would last 15-20 years. Just coming into this scene
ОтветитьI love a freeze dryer. And after trying many ways, freeze drying is the ultimate way to preserve..
ОтветитьThanks !
ОтветитьWe've been dehydrating for about a year..Can you open up a jar that has been vacuum seal that has dehydrated food inside use some of it and reseal it back?
ОтветитьGreat video, yes I was so glad to watch your video as didn’t want to purchase such an expensive product as every one seems to have one ,well at 71 I wouldn’t get my money out of buying one great video just found your channel, such great information
ОтветитьExcellent research, and a fair look at both dehydration and freeze-dried processes, costs and more.
ОтветитьI’m pretty excited. I just ordered my first dehydrator ever. I’ve been watching lots of videos and want to try my hand at it. Best of all—I used my bonus points so I only paid $35 for a really nice six tray Corsori! I’m pretty pleased with that. 😂
ОтветитьOk canning food how long will canning food last one yr what a waste of time and effort if it's bad after a yr
ОтветитьHeidi, Thank you for your excellent videos! Where do you purchase your freeze dried strawberries please?
ОтветитьBravo being sensitive to others who can’t afford a pricey freeze dryers.
ОтветитьThank you for this video. We have talked about getting a freeze dryer but the cost as well as the space needed for one are two of the main reasons we haven’t purchased one. We are planning on moving at some point and have thought maybe then we would get one. However, after doing more research, I doubt if we will ever buy one. I’ve never really felt like I could trust some of the videos I’ve seen about them because the reviewers had been gifted a freeze dryer from the company itself. But today I found another video about all the issues this person had after purchasing that particular brand of freeze dryer and the very poor customer service provided by that company. He basically said you will be responsible for being the mechanic when things go wrong. Comments varied - some said they had no issues and others said they did have many issues. Pretty unanimous about the poor customer service. He did compare that brand to another brand he purchased later which he has not had issues with. Now - after watching your video - you clinched it for me. We won’t be getting a freeze dryer. I have an awesome dehydrator so I will stick with that as well as canning for preserving our food. Makes more sense cost-wise to purchase a few freeze-dried foods and I will be checking out Mother Earth today. Thank you again for this video - it was the clincher for me. ❤️
ОтветитьFreeze-drying was a very bad experience for me. The machine is really big, it uses a lot of energy, it takes over 24-36 hours and worst of all, the company does not offer customer support. It is a very big investment and (H@RvstRight) is truly a company that does not stand behind its product. Definitely consider buying freeze-dried food from a reputable source and can or dehydrate the rest. God bless you all.
ОтветитьFirst visit.... enjoyed.
Thank you.
Your video is so jam packed with good, helpful information! I’m so glad I came across it. I’ll be a new subscriber starting today, and you just saved me $3000 as I realize now I don’t really need the freeze dryer to get the food preservation I want.
ОтветитьI have both and use both wouldn't give up either
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video. I recently got my first dehydrator and have been stressing over getting a freeze dryer, which I could never afford. This video has made me realize that for the $5000 + it would cost me to get and maintain a freeze dryer, I could purchase another dehydrator and many canning jars to stock my pantry. And buy freeze dried items that I can't dehydrate in #10 cans on Amazon.
I just came across your channel today and I am so glad I did. Again thank you. 🙂
who the HELL wants to eat 25 yro food?....people have taken prepping to insanity levels.....EAT FRESH FOOD!
Ответитьjust like insta pots and infrared ovens, etc..they are always pushing to buy some new gadget....we can afford a dehyrator...we have a meat shop that would be perfect to put a freeze dryer, but I just can't pull the switch....I can't justify the money nor the time.....I do not think people who put this stuff away for 20 yrs are actually going to eat it.....try inviting guests over......my advice is we should try to get back to the old ways....grow what you eat, eat in season....that is where the nutrition is.
ОтветитьExcellent job, thx
ОтветитьHeidi, thank you very much for this very informative, objective video! I have been giving a freeze dryer a bit of consideration for a year or so. I would really like to have one, and we can afford it...BUT (1) I don't like the idea of it heating up a room so much, especially in the summer (2) I only grow minimal amounts of vegetables, sometimes not at all (3) It's only the two of us here now, in our 70s (4) and most importantly to me is what I'm reading about the lack of customer support/warranty. That would be a definite stickler!
This sounds much like solar panels. Great idea in theory, maybe not so much in practice for some people. Everyone's situation is different. Again, thank you for all the good points.
You can grow Bananas, Pineapples and Mangos in pots. If you do an underground grow room, (expensive), you can control the temperature and humidity. Lights can give you 24 hours of light. Kreb cycle (darkness needed) is responsible for setting fruit.
ОтветитьThe best news today! God is Good All The Time! 👍
ОтветитьThe only con I can think of with freeze drying is cost. And scale, which relates to cost also.
ОтветитьI love it when somebody gives an opinion on something I’ve never owned
ОтветитьTeam freeze dryer here 👋 you just can’t dehydrate icecream the same way 🤪
ОтветитьSo how long does dehydrated food last?
ОтветитьThank you for this video. I have been on the fence for a couple of years now, and your video just made up my mind. I have heard so many things about food not being healthy when you dehydrate it. I can now say I can buy two large dehydrators and will not lose any of my garden from now on. And my grandkids will love the healthier snacks.
ОтветитьFreeze dryers cost thousands of dollars for a decent size. I’ll stick with my Excalibur dehydrator I bought about 15 years ago for $200.
ОтветитьThank you for this video I just saved enough extra money to get a dehydrator but I'm not sure I will ever be able to get a freeze dryer... I was thinking of maybe trying to go in with a few friends to get one and share... Switching every other weekend (as an example)
ОтветитьThank you, I appreciate you sharing the pros and cons
ОтветитьYou make some good points about not having a freeze dryer. I looked at some, the prices were high. Also the idea of having to change the oil so often is a turn off too, and I guess the oil is an additional, on-going cost. they are noisy, leak water so it's best if you have a garage, etc to put it in.
