Is The Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund (BITW) A Good Investment?

Hi Matt- Are you aware of any federal regulations coming around holding Bitcoin in private wallets? Some days back Coinbase CEO tweeted about these coming regulations. Your thoughts pls?

I also do not hold any Ethereum bc I too prefer Satoshi’s original design proof of work rather than proof of stake. Bitcoin only for me as a store of value asset. The alt coins such as ETH and ChainLink and other coins are legitimate projects in their own right that may or may not fail with us learning from them as we endeavor to construct crypto systems. But Bitcoin is the only blockchain for me and I suspect for a growing community of wealth preservation seekers. My ratio of bitcoin to gold bullion holding is around 10:1 which reflects my growing confidence that bitcoin’s market capitalization will eventually eclipse the market cap of gold.

I would think that the huge premium to nav would tell you that once a crypto exchange is able to offer an IRA account, there is going to be another flood of money coming into crypto.

QBTC.U (Canadian listing) looks to be an interesting alternative to GBTC. 1.95% management fee, 4% premium to NAV at Friday’s close. I haven’t done any due diligence on it though.

How do you hold bitcoin, (for a long time), and then borrow against it (when you retire). I am assuming this avoids taxes (until you die)? I was thinking of this as a retirement strategy?

Matt, I currently hold BTC in my Trezor, so I am set there. But I have been putting some money into GBTC in my Roth IRA. While I don't like the 2% fees, I like the general idea of having a more speculative investment in a Tax friendly account. I feel it is better to have the risk in that type of account. Am I way off in my thinking?, I am not asking for financial advice, just what you might do if you were in my situation...thanks

Is there a structural difference between BITW and Greyscale funds? Greyscale doesn't call their funds Index Funds but rather trusts. I am trying to figure out if there is some structural reason why institutional investors may have skipped on the lower premium alternative.

tax advantage for retirement from crypto movements, thats how i see it, since is before the big big "bull run"

Not a particularly good investment, but a terrific trade! I currently have reasonable amounts of GBTC and ETHE in my not that large IRA. Plus I am retired. I bought 10 shares of BITW on Friday December 11th for $372.50 just to test the water; this morning (Wednesday December 16th) they were worth $1296.00. I find that actually owning something of interest like BITW brings in the visceral critical faculties to complement the intellectual ones. The premium over NAV bothers me more than the fee, because that is volatile - it increased considerably when crypto was calm and steady on Monday and Tuesday. But so is that of ETHE - I got most of my ETHE at a premium of 59% but it was about 106% on Friday versus BITW's 120%. I like my Fidelity IRA - they have terrific trade execution - but wish they had the ability to buy raw crypto. The BITW premiums will get arbitraged away eventually, and that is a potential loss component. Standard and Poors Dow Jones is planning a 550 cryptocurrency index next year and I am sure index ETFs will follow soon after. I will stick with these products that follow the price of crypto until something better comes along. Of course I own some Bitcoin and other crypto outside of my IRA, tucked away in cold storage. Update: today (Friday December 18th) there has been a BIG downward adjustment in premium and those 10 shares are worth $645. Have been expecting this.

But this index also gets a tax benefit doesn't that offset the fee? That is how I see it. Yes I have to pay more for the fee but the percentage of tax that is reduced is bigger.... What do you think? Thanks got your videos!

Keeping your keys is too much reliability. These cold wallet usually stop working. U need to buy 2 cold wallet at least and good luck sleeping with $500K in your cold wallet at home.
