I had a VPN for a couple of years. I bought it for Kodi. I might watch a 30 year old movie once in a while on it and while that's still piracy I am not paying money to watch a film that has been shown on TV for 20 or 30 years. I will buy a movie once in a while just so I'll have it in my collection. Mind you I own most of my old movies on VHS which are useless without a VCR. If I am watching a movie that I own outright the rights to on Kodi is it really "piracy"? Maybe?

so many people say VPNs DONT track the sites you visit. what a load of hogwash. its like you said, VPNs have to track you because it has to know which website you are trying to connect to. so how is that NOT tracking you. VPNs are crap and most people are now catching on to that.

VPNs are ruining competitive gaming. You are using a service that is lying to the games server about where your DNS server is originating and adding a delay to the games communication between you an other players. On more P2P reliant services this causes issues between what each player is actually seeing.

They are the worst internet scam going. They sell this shit without providing help in configuration and create all sorts of issues with their ISP. I hate them!

I work for a social media site where we have definitely reported people to the police and handed over relevant information to the authorities. It's a long legal thing, but it's done and I can definitely tell you, no one reads the fine print which says we will definitely do that if you're committing crimes. Even if your VPN is legit, its definitely worth reading the legal bits, because when it comes to what is or isn't tracked and what can and cannot be sent to say a government who asks for that data...you best know that before you feel secure "not committing crimes online" using your VPN.
